File permissions problem

Hi all,

Need a bit of help with this one. Im currently trying to install e107 onto my webspace. I manage to upload everything no problem, but it asks you to change some of the file permissions to either 777 and later back to 664.

Tried changing the file permissions with FlashFXP and Bulletproof, but keeps getting an error: 500 'SITE CHMOD 777 filename.php' command not understood

Is this a new thing since F2S were taken over (last time I ran a forum was on good old F2S owned site) that the server does not allow permission changes or is a problem my end.

Tried changing permissions on another site of mine on a different host with no problem.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: File permissions problem

Seems strange. My F2S space allowed me to change permissions before as I used to have an invision board running on it. Tried PHPBB and E107 but both have the same problems. Seems like the F2S server throwing a wobbler.

Only need to change permissions to 777 on 5 or 6 folders/files to allow installation, then revert some of them back to 644 once installed.

Someone suggested on another thread that you need to ask F2S to do this now with certain files, but I wouldnt have thought you needed to go down that route.

Re: File permissions problem

In a real hosting environment you wouldn't but these days with f2s; the only real thing you get is problems.

Sorry and all, would suggest some cheap webhosting somewhere else mate.

Re: File permissions problem

In a slightly less hate fuelled post, do you have a phpinfo.php on the hosting acc so we can try and see wtf it's doing?

Re: File permissions problem

yup, phpinfo.php is there but doesnt do anything as far as I can see, just gives a 404 error.

Thats in one of the folders that requires the permissions set.

Copied it into the root and tried to view it in IE. Gives a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error

Sometimes though, from experience, even if you do care, sometimes you cannot do a lot about things because of people further up the tree.
