PHP versions
I had no idea till tonight that f2s apparently has different versions of PHP running. I discovered that the regular f2s site is using PHP 5.2.5 but my own site that is hosted at f2s is still running under PHP 5.2.2! Why? Why can't everyone be using PHP 5.2.5? Does this make any sense?
Incidentally I made my brilliant discovery using PHP of course -- fsockopen() rocks. Here's the kicker. I have another site that runs on PHP 5.2.6 for which I pay nothing! That's b/c it runs on my hardrive's local web server. I now ask myself, why am I paying for something that is inferior to what the business itself is using. And, why am I paying for something that is inferior to what I have on my hardrive. So, if someone in the know can clarify what is going on, that would be great. Better yet can f2s simply upgrade PHP to 5.2.6 for its web host customers? |

Re: PHP versions
f2s' own website will run on a different server to the customer platform for obvious reasons.
I think inferior is a strong word given Debian Etch is still running 5.2.0 in their repos. You can but ask support for an ETA on the upgrade which they won't likely do often in order to *try* and maintain some level of stability. If you can run your site at home, do it, you'll be able to offer it a much more loving home than f2s'.

Re: PHP versions
Chaz,
Thanks for the feedback. I have to admit that personally I've benefited a lot by sticking it out here. The reason is that unanticipated problems have a way of making me a better developer. I keep on improving my coding skills at f2s b/c I always learn about something that I didn't anticipate could happen. My code is a whole lot more rock solid than when I first came to f2s as a result.

Re: PHP versions
That's not the first time I've heard that, not about f2s, but for other places and I applaud you in that respect.
