WordPress - f2s - Fantastico

I think this is the right place to post.

I’m thinking of installing a WordPress Blog on one of the domains that f2s host for me. I have been advised that if my ISP has Fantastico enabled that the process of installing WordPress will be much easier – I’m all for an easier life!!

Question. Does f2s have this facility and if so where can I find it?

Blogging is so popular these days that I'm assuming some members will already be blogging so any additional advice you can offer me on the installation of WordPress would be greatly appreciated.

Currently I host my blog with Blogger but I want to have more control over it.

Many thanks for any help offered

Kevin

No F2S doesn't offer Fantastico. Fantastico is used on servers that have the cPanel control panel, but F2S don't have this on their servers. You'll need to install Wordpress yourself, but it shouldn't be too difficult and in the long run I think it's better because you get a better understanding of things and you'll be able to do more with Wordpress yourself.

Hi Guys if there are any WordPress Bloggers viewing I'd appreciate some advice.

As indicated above I'm trying to set up my first WordPress Blog as you know it asks for some initial information but I'm not to sure what to put in here:

define('DB_NAME', 'putyourdbnamehere'); // The name of the database

I've activated mysql in the members area and went to database details buy can't figure out what to put into 'putyourdbnamehere'). Help please where do I find the database name?

Secondly can I assume that for: 'define('DB_HOST', 'localhost'); that 'localhost' remains unchanged?

And finally do I remove the the quote when I enter the name of the database, username, password etc. do the quotes stay?

I hope to put the blog into seperate sub-directory I have on a standard website that has been up and running now for a few years and I would appreciate any advice you can offer. I'm thinking I'd address it something like this www.worldwide-infomedia-services.com/NEWS/ where NEWS would be the sub-directory containing the blog.

If I sound muddled in what I'm saying it is because I am!! As its my first time at setting up WordPress any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

The "putyourdbnamehere" bit will be your username, in my case chazzy.
The hostname should be listed in your database bit but in my case (post migration) its db-f2s.

Leave the quotes.

Sounds fine for your idea about putting the blog in a seperate directory, but for sanities sake, use lowercase.

PM me if you want a hand and I'll set one up alongside.
