Sending lots of emails what are the limits?

I'm having trouble with sending lots of emails from a php script on a clients webspace. The trouble occurs when I've sent around 200 emails, the script starts to return a message saying it can't send any more emails.

Anyone know what the limits are for sending so many emails in what time frame ?

I currently have it set to 50 emails per minute, but that still fails at 200.

I can change the number of emails and change the time frame if I know what the limits are. The email list is about 550 email addresses to send to.

I did also try connecting to an alternative smtp server outside of the network but that fails to get a connection - are f2s firewalling external smtp connections from the webserver ?

I think it was Andrewr_f2s that said i was 150 e-mails on the new Tiscali Mail Servers (up from 50 at the original implementation), but I don't recall him specifying a time limit.

That's on the Tiscali run SMTP server (smtp.f2s.tiscali.co.uk) which isn't used by the webservers. Since the webservers are run by Webfusion they use their own SMTP servers (run by Webfusion and not F2S/Tiscali) for sending email, so I doubt they are setup/run the same.

I can't find anywhere any mention of limits on the F2S site or Webfusion support site, so I think the user will have to raise a ticket to find out what the limits are.
