Can't ftp my free webspace!
Hi - I use my free webspace for testing websites http://www.chanas.f2s.com. Have had no problems with it to date. Today - I wanted to test some php script that I have added and tried to ftp the files up. I can't get a response from the server. I phoned support who told me it was my firewall\antivirus etc - all my fault. I turned my firewall\antivirus off and it made no difference. I have no problem when I ftp sites I have hosted elsewhere so I don't think it's a problem my end. Is anyone else having problems at the moment.

I just tried my webspace now and FTP is working fine. Does your FTP client just say it cannot connect at all? Does it give any error?

Hi - I am trying to ftp my files through dreamweaver 8. When I eventually connect all it brings down is an empty public_html folder. My site it up there however, and when I ftp through ie7 I can get through. I have taken out all my settings, put them in again and it makes no difference. I have no problem with my two other sites that are hosted elsewhere. I have never encountered anything like this before and wondered if there was a problem with an f2s server (although support tells me that there isn't because I can reach my files through ie7) It is all extremely strange

I'm having connection problems too. I can ftp my free webspace, but not my domain webspace. I've been having to try several times before I get a connection for a couple of weeks, but now I can't connect at all.

If you can FTP OK with IE7 and can view your website files in the public_html folder, it sounds like a problem with the settings in dreamweaver. If there is a setting in dreamweaver for the path, does it have public_html in it somewhere (and not still www.chanas.f2s.com from the old platform)?

Hi Adam
Yep - when I ftp through ie7 my public_html folder is there with all my files. One thing that was a little strange though. My 'notes' folder was missing - the file in this should be dwsync.xml Instead there was a folder called xyiznwsk I removed this and copied and pasted the notes folder in but it made no difference. I put the xyiznwsk folder back again made no difference. xyiznwsk is a completely empty folder and is definately not something I have uploaded so I don't know where it came from. I did ask support if it was some configuration that their server makes to the public_html folder but they said not. I have checked and double checked my dreamweaver settings and they are all fine, just can't establish a connection to the server through it. I am completely confused as to why this is happening - it was all fine a couple of days ago. So yep - I can ftp files through ie - but it is a real pain

I'm using FTP Commander, and this is the last part:
< 331 Please specify the password. > PASS (hidden) < 230 Login successful. > SYST < 215 UNIX Type: L8 > PWD < 257 "/" > TYPE A < 200 Switching to ASCII mode. > PORT ip removed,6,154 < 200 PORT command successful. Consider using PASV. > LIST But nothing happens after that. Last edited by kmount; 09-11-2007 at 02:47 PM. Reason: Removed IP - Chaz. |

Sounds like either your firewall is stopping PASV/Active, or there's something funky up with the f2s side...
Anyway, In Dreamweaver, assuming you are correctly set up using Sites. Click Site, MAnage Sites, Edit the site you're working on. Click Advanced tab Remote Info "Try enabling Passive FTP"

Read what it says "Consider using PASV". I don't use FTP Commander but try looking for Passive/Active settings in it.

Hi Chaz - I don't think it's my firewall\antivirus. I have disabled them and still get the same problem, plus I wouldn't be able to ftp to my other sites if it were.

If I enable active FTP I get the same problem as above, but active FTP works with a different FTP server (I'm behind a router with NAT). I'm wondering if active FTP now doesn't work on the F2S servers for some reason...
annc, have you tried enabling passive FTP to see if that fixes it as suggested by Chaz?

Dead FTP
Quote:
Back to the Friday night to Monday morning situation again where they don't seem to want to spend money on employing the proper staff. They boast about how good, how professional they are, but at times they are just playing with our money. That's not acceptable. The FTP fell down at 09:50 this morning, will they pay compensation to me for losses incurred by not being able to update my customers web sites on time? Why am I still with f2s!!!

Pipex put something up on their hosting status website at about 3pm this afternoon saying they are working on it, but it's still not working:
http://www.hosting-status.pipex.net/ I'll put something on the front page, and chances are it'll be fixed 5 minutes after

Over 7 hours after Pipex posted on their site and it's still broken. Is there even anyone still there or have they gone home? They haven't even bothered to update the incident on their status website either. Good luck to Pipex Communications trying to sell off the rest of the Pipex group when this is how they treat customers...

It's still dead, and they updated the incident on the Pipex status site at 7am to say they are still working on it. Is their platform really so complicated and difficult to maintain that it takes this long to get FTP working again?
Edit: There's some other annoyed Webfusion customers on this site, as FTP being down affects them too: http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?p=209073

I am beginning to suspect that they are not really working on the problem at all.
They know about it, posted a message on Pipex (not f2s) to say that they know about it to save being bombarded with tickets, but have no intention to start fixing it until the appropriate person arrives at work on Monday morning. I hope his or her train is on time.... Everyone should now send them a ticket expressing their dissatisfaction and asking for an explanation for the excessive time to fix this problem. If you don't receive an answer to your ticket let us know here...

Seems to be working now finally. I wonder if they'd like to explain what took them so long? I doubt they will...
