I have a blog at Blogger which also uploads via ftp to my f2s webspace. All worked fine until 4 Sept. Despite that particular web space not being migrated, I changed the log in to dmainname@domainname.co.uk as instructed. No joy. Get error message 553: could not create file. My IT chap also changed the Permissions on the blog folder, but it still doesn't seem to want to play ball.
FYI, My FTP access is set to www.domainname.co.uk/blog/ - do I need to change it because of this public_folder issue thingy? Have f2s blocked blogger ftp access or anything weird? Anyone who knows, pelase let me know! Yours confused and a little dazed at the edges... |

If you FTP in, it would be ftp://www.domainname.com/public_html/blog which marries up with http://www.domainname.com/blog

Chris, thanks for the help, but no joy, just a constant error-republish try loop. I think the whole website is unhappy. I can use Fetch (Mac ftp programme) to get into the public-html folder and see all my web site files no problem, but when I try to drag a new (test) file as usual, I get the error message
Fetch could not put "test_file.html" because the connection was reset by the server. Contact the server administrator to verify that you have the correct hostname. Server responded: "OK to send data" MY FTP Fetch setting are: Hostname: ftp.domainname.co.uk Username: domainname@domainnanme.co.uk Path: www.hatstandopera.co.uk/public_html/ Now I am really confused! Any advice much appreciated! |

I can't even log into my webspace, teach me for not using it in ages!
I think the path should just be "public_html" since you already specified the hostname which the path is appended to. IE, hostname of ftp.blah.com, and path of public_html would really mean "ftp://ftp.blah.com/public_html/"

Chaz, yes that works with just public_html. Fetch then finds the correct fodler first time using a shortcut. It also helped (I think) to change passwords stored in my Mac's Keychain, some of which are accessed by programmes.
However, the file upload is most erratic, with the connection sometimes staying long enough to put my test file up, sometimes not. Have got a ticket from f2s on this one - that sounds more than just a log-in issue to me. Thanks for all your help - much appreciated. |

Oh, I love this forum! Tech support at f2s did not suggest the issue over paths in ftp being just /public_html/, but thanks to Chaz I can now post my blog AND ftp files to my web space once again.
(OK, I keep getting the Fetch error message but in fact the files are there safe and sound - you just need to refresh the Fetch screen to see them. Never happened before, but hey, at least it's working...) Now all I need is for MySQL database to link up again thanks to the imput of my web designer (it's on a server that was migrated...) and I'm back in business. Yeah! |
