Website messed up!
Hi
Hopefully someone here can help me. Since my website was moved it has been displaying script errors. Now when I have tried to upload it again I get an error message saying: 200 switching to binary mode 227 entering passive mode (194, 154, 164, 101, 63, 95) 553 could not create file I changed my user name but as I am a computer bumbly, using Serif Webplus 9 as my web software, I am totally lost and confused. Anyone able to give me help? Thanks Sarah Last edited by Performance Barefoot; 01-09-2007 at 03:17 PM. |

What's the name of the file you're trying to upload? And do you know which folder it's trying to upload to?

I am trying to upload to my website www.performancebarefoot.co.uk in exactly the same way as I have done for the past year, through the software I use, Serif WebPlus 9. I just go to file and publish website. I cottoned on that the user name had changed but once the information has been exported it then gives me the error message as the all the files start to up load.
Sorry I am not technical at all, all I know is how to upload through the Serif software and I can't understand how it can suddenly be such a problem. Sarah |

Strange... I've never used WebPlus, so i'll start off by asking, is this what you see when you upload? http://www.speedy.uk.net/support/ima...s9_upload2.gif
If so, what do you have in the FTP Address, and Folder sections?

If it works, I love you forever, I've been struggling for ages and getting jolly grumpy. I'll report back in a few minutes.

Hm. I wonder whats going on there...
If you open 'My Computer', and in the address bar there enter: 'ftp://ftp.performancebarefoot.co.uk' and hit Enter. It might say that Pipex/Atlas doesn't support anonymous logins, just click OK. Select File, then Login As.. and pop in your webspace username and password. Once connected, it should give you a list of some folders.. could you let me know which ones you see?

Fantastic.. maybe it's just WebPlus not liking the way the folder was entered into it. Try setting that folder field in the thing earlier to /public_html instead of just public_html.

Maybe it wants a / at the end too? Perhaps /public_html/ will work for it...
It does seem very picky!

Okay, this seems to be because WebPlus makes pages in a style called 'UTF-8', which is basically computer speak for "use symbols from all common languages". The f2s server is probably not set up in this way, so things are getting confused.
According to a post on the Serif forums, there's a workaround for this, but I dunno if it'll work. But i guess it's worth a shot? I'll post in 2 minutes once i've typed it up

1) Open notepad
2) Add the following text: AddDefaultCharset utf-8 3) Click File, then Save 4) In the 2nd drop down box at the bottom, where it says "Save as type:", you'll need to select the second option "All Files". 5) In the File name box, put: .htaccess 6) Save the file somewhere you can find it, like the Desktop. 7) Follow the steps in post 9 to get into your FTP space 8) Once in, double click the public_html folder 9) Find your file you saved earlier and right click it, then select Copy 10) In the public_html folder we just opened, right click in there and hit Paste. Fingers crossed, if f2s is being nice, it should work! You can close all the folders/files after that.

Sarah,
Chris (elrandom3) knows everything! I know you can do it in Movie Maker, see below for some details: Quote:

Aha! She knows my one weakness!
![]() My experience with Quicktime is again limited, but I think after doing things with it, you need to save it again. Maybe worth while changing it's name to something else, and seeing if that has any effect on things.

Evil youtube.. I guess they don't want to play nicely...
![]() How about, instead of saving the file.. exporting it. Click File, then Export. In the middle drop-down box select 'Movie to MPEG-4', then in the bottom one, something like 'Broadband - Medium'. Worth a shot
