Trouble logging in with webmaster password

How do I get the webmaster password to work with FrontPage?

I can log in fine at the command prompt:
$ ftp ftp.domain.co.uk
name: tlezard@domain.co.uk
password: my *webmaster* password
230 User logged in blah blah

But from FrontPage:

"The server www.domain.co.uk at www.domain.co.uk requires a username and password"

What username do I have to provide so I can log in with the webmaster password? It's not what worked just now on the command line, that's for sure. And I can access it ok with just my main F2S username and password, but I don't want to share that one!

Any ideas?

Tony

That was the first thing I did, so that's not it!

I don't use Frontpage but would it be a problem since your using www.domain.co.uk instead of ftp.domain.co.uk?

I might be wrong but I thought that the username changed to the format 'tlezard@tlezard.domain.co.uk'...? Or am I getting confused somewhere?

It's probably something to do with that, but you can't open "ftp://ftp.domain.co.uk" in FropntPage - it says "FrontPage does not support opening files from FTP servers".

What I'm missing is how to get FrontPage to do what it does with the F2S username/password but with the web admin password instead. It must be doing an FTP transfer somewhere along the line, right? How else would it download the file list or upload changes?

I think access is managed using Web Folders. How do those things work anyway? Is it something to do with the FrontPage Extensions that were activated some time ago?

at http://www.freedom2surf.net/help/webhostingtechfaq.php

it says:

# How do I access my Frontpage account?
When connecting to a Frontpage enabled website from Microsoft Frontpage 2000 or Microsoft Office 2000 you should enter the location as:
http://www.YOUR.DOMAIN.NAME/ where YOUR.DOMAIN.NAME is really your domain name. The username and password will be the same as your freedom2surf home page username and password.

any help? user and pass should be the same as your f2s home page (main account) log in details?

Yes, I can get in with my main account user/pass, exactly as the FAQ describes.

But, I want to make use of the webmaster password feature to provide access to a webmaster without handing over my main account user/pass.

I can log in with it from the command line (so I know it works to some extent at least) but can't access the site in FrontPage using it.

I don't know if this is of any help but I found this update from Richard, post #65 on this thread here:

Frontpage

We know about the Frontpage issue with the new style logins. No Frontpage enabled sites are going to be moved until we've resolved this issue and engineering are looking at this at the moment.

ftp - New Style Logins

If you are having difficulty using the new style logins, please ensure that you deactivate your Webmaster password. Deactivating the Webmaster password will revert your ftp password to your main account (or Members Area) password. Reactivating with a new Webmaster password will work.

Ok, so I haven't been migrated yet, and the ping test confirms it (migrated sites are on 194.154.164.x) and mine isn't.

The blurb says that even so, the new style usernames apply, but I still can't get in with the webmaster password. Even tried old-style username constructions like tlezard/domain.co.uk. Help!

You can only publish via Frontpage using your freedom2surf members area username and password, the webmaster password has never worked for FrontPage so please ignore the message in the members area saying you must use your webmaster account.

Thanks Justin.

So, is there any hope for webmaster password to be enabled for FrontPage, ever?

The current migration period would seem to be a handy opportunity to look at the issue.

You would have to ask F2S that, but whenever I have seen FrontPage extension's deployed most of the time it involves the same password as the main FTP password, in this case the members area, but f2s may be able to tweak that on the new platform, but on the existing platform it is the case.
