Little confused so please hang tight ! ....

I have a domain purchased with F2S - can I just update DNS and point to my new web host outside of F2S ?

but I read that this is not allowed is this true or am I cunfusing this with somehting else ?

Hiya,

You cannot change the DNS Servers when your domain is with F2S, you will have to transfer your domain out to another registrar to change your DNS Servers.

If it's a .co.uk, I recommend transfering it to ukreg.com, but if it's a .com/.net/.org/.biz, I would say registerfly would be your best bed, as both of the above give you control over your DNS, whereas F2S do not.

For information on transfering domains out of F2S, and to put it in action, I suggest you contact their head of domain names on Rachel@freedom2surf.net.

........ hmm dam thats what I was afraid of ...boo hiss ! ..... so what is the DNS control panel used for in the members area if its not for this sort of thing ? ...

DNS Control Panel is for things related to your F2S Hosting and mail etc, to change the actual DNS Servers, you need to transfer the domain.

I have a domain name registered with Freedom2surf.

I made an A entry to point to my webhosting company.

It works, but it's not really the best way to do it.
