Domain Transfer

Hi, I bought my first domain, www.17minutes.co.uk, through F2S and use my personal webspace. However, I now need ASP hosting and just can't afford F2S's rates so i have to move away. How easy is it to transfer my domain? Will it cost me anything?

Cheers, Lol

You don't need to tranfser your domain away to host the webspace for the domain somewhere else. You can just keep the domain registered with F2S and change the DNS servers (nameservers) for the domain to those of your new web host. I do that with my domain and it works fine.

If you do want to transfer the domain, you need to ask F2S to change the IPS tag to that of your new domain registrar.

I see, so on my user panel it says I can edit the re-direct that exists at the moment. Would I do it through there?

Cheers, Lol

No the redirect will just redirect your domain to a different address. If you are paying a hosting company for hosting your domain they will give you (usually 2) DNS servers to set your domain to. You set these using the "Edit DNS Entries" link, and type them in the "Domain Name Servers for mydomain.co.uk" section.

If you click on the 'cancel this service' bit under 'your next billing dates' in your members area you'll be prompted to put in the new IPS tag, you won't need to comtact them directly.

It won't, Andy said it would prompt for the IPS tag, not DNS.

Do I need to cancel my webspace before changing of the dns entries works?
I added the dns entries for my one domain (which does not have webspace on f2s) and it came into effect the next day, but for my other domain (with webspace) it hasn't worked yet and is still pointing to my f2s webspace.
I don't necessarily want to cancel the webspace before the sites are moved, to avoid it being completely unreachable ....
(Of course it could be that the proxy of my provider hasn't updated yet ...)

I'm guessing it was done wrong, or yes it hasn't updated.

DNS changes should happen overnight at f2s. I did hear of someone changing their DNS and it not being updated to the www, hopefully this is not the case now though...
