First the ftp bit.

Nice tutorials HERE and a 30 day trial.

For easiness I’d download the latest Full package zip file from phpbb.com and unzip the contents to a folder….we’ll call the folder “forum”. I cant remember the structure in side the zip but end up with some php files and the other phpbb folders inside “forum” folder.

Log in to your server space using an ftp client like flashfxp (above)
the site address = ftp.USERNAME.f2s.com
username=your f2s USERNAME
password=your f2s PASSWORD

Once logged in you’ll see a folder www.USERNAME.f2s.com change in to that folder and upload the complete “forum” folder you created earlier.

Get your f2s database address/username/pass from your f2s user area

Open your web browser and point it www.USERNAME.f2s.com/forum/install/install.php

Enter the required details and away you go..

The address of your forum when installed will be www.USERNAME.f2s.com/forum/index.php

You don’t have to use the name forum for the folder, you don’t even have to use a folder, you could just upload the contents of the extracted phpbb zip in to the www.USERNAME.f2s.com folder.

setting up phpbb is easy as pie just follow on screen instructions after the upload.

What is better though is phpnuke. This is a web portal system with phpbb as its forum. A little harder to set up, but the instructions come with it.

For an ftp program, I would suggest filezilla. This is a free client, and is very comparable to flashfxp.

Hope this helps!

whether this is a stupid question, on the database entry stuff...

do you leave the bit about database server hostname/DSN as localhost?
I take it that the database name is: db.username.f2s.com, the username is your username and the password is your databse password.

Thanks for the support guys

No the database details are as they are show in the members area. The database server hostname/address is db.username.f2s.com, the username is as shown under username for the database in the members area, and the password is the password you chose for the database.
