please excuse my naievety in advance etc ...

I wanted to change the name of my site so I purchased a new domain name and redirected it to my site. all well and good. however, the old domain name still appears in the broswer address bar. How can I make the new domain name appear there??

You're pointing your new domain name to your free www.<yourid>.f2s.com website ? If you want your new domain name to appear in the browser URL then I'm sure you have to purchase Web hosting for the new domain.
