When will domain name be active?

Hi. I purchased a domain name, through F2S. This was about 5 days ago. I have pointed the domain at my IP address using, the (A = IP) thingy in the members area.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the registration process? When can I expect my domain name to start working.

I have apache running and and have set up the relevant port forwarding to that machine etc.....

TIA Terry...

I should think it should be working by now (although I don't know how long F2S takes doing it). See if it is registered to yourself by entering your domain in the WHOIS box at DNS Stuff, and if it is enter the domain name in the DNS lookup box and it should return the IP address you set it up to point to. If you use a router for your ADSL connection at home it may not support lookback connections and so you may not be able to see your website by entering your domain name from behind your router. Try accessing your domain from a proxy service like The Cloak and see if it works from there.

Hmmmm. Done as you suggested. DNS lookup says "No A record for" (My-Domain).

It looks as though the domain is registered OK. A few name server refferals came up, along with:

server0004.freedom2surf.net. An authoritative nameserver.

I guess I'll have to go and redo the A record in the members area.

Many Thanks for that info.

Regards Terry.....

Ok. I deleted the old A record in my members area. Then created the A record again. Will have to wait untill tomorrow to see it it updates.

It's not due to firewall/loopback at this point, because the DNS server, "server0004.freedom2surf.net". Has no 'A' record for the domain.

Thx again.

Aparently the F2S DNS servers are updated each morning 09:30 so I should be in business by now.

But........DNS lookup still says no A record exists for my domain, on any server.

Am I doing something wrong, or do F2S not update their DNS as often as they claim?

Is it worth trying to add a zonefile at somewhere like GraniteCanyon or some other pulic DNS?

Sounds like something may be up. Probably best to contact F2S and see what they say.
