Website unreachable just now

The website was inaccessible just now for a few minutes because our hosts experienced a large scale DDOS attack affecting the entire datacenter. The DDOS attack is now being filtered and things seem to be back to normal.

Edit: Actually looking at the logs I think it was more like just under half an hour downtime.

But of course. The next step was to perform a control slap.

According to the hosts:
Quote:
Initial investigating shows that some kind of attack crashed a core Juniper router into the datacenter. This was restarted within 5 to 10 minutes and filtering put in place.
I'm reading that as either an attack caused a core Juniper router to crash into the datacenter, or a core Juniper router into the datacenter was crashed by some kind of attack. I think they mean the latter

If the attack crashed a Juniper, I'd be quite worried :/

A ctrl alt slap is what one applies when the pc refuses to be cooperative.

Apparently they are talking to the Juniper 24/7 technical support team to see what happened:

Yeah it was pretty good. I'd already started a thread in their forums 2 minutes before they posted that wondering what was happening. I think they underestimated how long UK servers were offline for though - we got no website hits for about 29 minutes.

At least they dealt with it quickly. Imagine if an f2s router crashed ;p
