I am getting a problem where my internet is dropping out.
so far i have changed the following: routers microfilters laptops desktops i have checked the logs and im getting this showing up everytime its dropped its connection. Oct 17 2008 12:07:03 im_backend:Changed ipwan IP address to 0.0.0.0 Oct 17 2008 12:07:13 im_backend:Changed ipwan IP address to xx.xx.xx.xxx (x = my ip address) i have read somewhere on here that i need to change my idle time from 10 to 0 but i have already tried this and its had no effect on the problem at all. i use a Static IP Address given to me by tiscali from the beging could this be the problem my ip is being used else where, sorry im clutching at straws here, i have posted on the support forums at tiscalis homesite and im still awaiting a fix ! hope someone can shed some light on this subject thanks Simon |

Not really a reply but I have a problem with Tiscali in as much as when a telephone call is either made or received my noise margin dips from 15db to -5db. Still awaiting a satisfactory reply from Tiscali !!! John |

That's more than a dip, that's a steep plummet.
I assume as you're pinning the blame on Tiscali that you've eliminated your internal wiring and filtering etc?

Thanks for the comment. I use the incoming LJU3 with an adsl filter. The problem started on October 5th my adsl connection was not affected at all before then. I have tried 2 modems, two telephones and 3 filters and all give the same effect i.e. my adsl connection drops out after app 8 seconds as regular as clockwork |

Sounds like you've done your homework on that then. It could very well be a creeping SNR problem but nonetheless I think you've eliminated your side.
What happens if solely with the modem connected you call the line number from a mobile without a handset connected?

Hi Chaz
Surprise surprise my noise margin is now 21db and on hanging up the phone it drops for about 5 seconds to 16db. The adsl conection remains solid Has someone actually done something. Will keep the forum posted |

There's still a big drop there of 5dB which if your line was being pushed to its norm max (BT land say 6dB for stability) it could potentially force a resync.
I'm not on ADSL currently but from memory picking up the phone didn't make 5dB of diff!

An update as promised.
At 20:00 yesterday the line reverted back to the original settings complete with dropouts, and is the same this morning. I also received an e-mail from tiscali in very broken English which told me absolutely nothing. Will keep you all posted |

Looks like my original problem is that Tiscali themelves are having problems with there Static IP range, i have requested a new one but there computers keep generating the same address and they keep asking me to retest with that address when i know that it has a problem due to the fact that when im on a dynamic range it works fine!!!! why cant their computer generate a new address for me aaaahhhh

A final update
After a great deal of prodding Tiscali finally stopped there silly questions and contacted BT. The fault was found exactly where I predicted some 3 weeks ago to Tiscali. It was in the local roadside cabinet. I now sync at 7808Kbps with a noise margin of 14db I am at last a happy chappy after 5 weeks of problems John |
