Slow broadband

My internet has been up and running for over two weeks but my router statistics show that it is still not running at the 8Mb speed it should be. It is VERY slow, and cuts out for hours at a time, and is rarely resolved by resetting or restarting the router.

Driver Version:1.75 API Version:GS_API_626 Firmware Version:E.25.41.18 A Dsp Version:0x000000e1 Status:ON US Trained Rate:288 kbps DS Trained Rate:192 kbps Current US data rate during last 30 sec:6.028 kbps Current DS data rate during last 30 sec:41.203 kbps Local Line Attenuation:42.5 dB Remote Line Attenuation:25.5 dB Local SNR Margin:23.5 dB Remote SNR Margin:29.0 dB Operation Progress:0x000000ad State:Showtime Rx ATTNDR:4208000 Tx Cell Rate:679 Rx Cell Rate:452 Overall Failure:0 PMmode:L2L3Allowed Local ITUCountry Code:0x0000b5ff Auto Start:true Whip Active:Inactive Profile:BT Standard:BisPlusAuto Utopia Interface:Level1 Rx Auto Bin Adjustisable Tx Attenuation:Bis_0DB Detect Noiseisable Capability:A2/A2+ Coding Gain:auto Framer Type:Type3ET

the statistics highlighted I assume are upstream and downstream speeds and before you ask (as my father did) they have not changed in a week or on pressing the refresh button.

can anyone help?

Edit: the modem model is Siemens Gigaset SE587

Re: Slow broadband

Hi Sarah,

Welcome to the forum.

Looking at your stats there I can imagine you're ready to scream. It looks to me like your line profile is shot and as a result you're connected at around 3x dial up speed! (your upload is faster!).

I'd suggest giving Tiscali Technical support a ring, advise them that your sync speed is 192kbps but that your signal to noise margin is 23.5dB suggesting a profile issue. If they start giving you rubbish about contention or local issues don't take it, your line is syncing low for a reason and they need to find out why!

Hope this helps, sorry I can't do anything else
