Freedom2Support Acquired by Sky User
Freedom2Support can this afternoon confirm it has agreed to the sale of all assets, including the freedom2support and Tiscali User websites to Sky User, another 100% independent ISP Support site for an undisclosed sum effective from midnight this evening which will lead to the formation of a new Tiscali User website.
Freedom2Support, first founded in May 2002, was one of the first independent community based ISP support sites to emerge and has enjoyed a tremendous six years with official recognition from freedom2surf staff throughout it's life and has helped many thousands of customers exercise their freedom2surf to the maximum. However we believe now is the right time for the website to be acquired by another party in order to help the website develop to serve our users to the highest possible standard. Whilst we are receiving a small amount of payment for this website, during negotiations the primary focus has always been to work with the new owners to develop a site going forward that will serve both Tiscali and Freedom2Surf users better. As part of the changeover, Freedom2Support will become a subsidiary section of a new "Tiscali User" website, which will cover all Tiscali ISP's to greater enhance the level of content and to provide support for customers from such ISP's. All of the current Freedom2Support Management, Adam, Rachel and Justin will transfer over to the new website and will continue to be involved in the day to day operations of Tiscali User. Chaz and John will also transfer across. As per our privacy policy users of Freedom2Support now have 24 hours to opt out of their data being passed to the new owners of the website and to the Tiscali User domain, if you wish to cancel your account here please send a PM to any of the forum staff, who will delete your account for you. Lastly we would like to thank everyone for their support over the last six years, and without you, we would not be where we are today.

Tanya,
It's only the "Freedom2Support" (i.e. unaffiliated support) site which has sold to SkyUser who in turn are also unaffiliated with Sky. - Nothing will change for f2s users.

Perhaps so, but previous experience over the years has shown it's not happened before.
Skyuser I doubt would ever sell out to Sky, nor did we ever sell out (or had a need to) to Tiscali/Pipex/f2s. Selling the 'unaffiliated' support site really has no catalyst effect on the day to day operations of the Tiscali Company.

Its OK at Sky User - Don't worry
I migrated to Sky Broadband earlier this month. It's pretty good too.
I quickly found out about the Sky User Forum and joined. It's a good site with plenty of info to browse.

Hi All,
Now the way I read this is that Freedom2Support is to become part of a wider users group (separate from the companies) all good there then I think the company I took ages to work out would be best for my ISP, so joined, is unravelling (and becoming just Tiscali ). Not too sure what to do about this yet (or where to go) But one thing is sure - what is the point of a dedicated Freedom2Support users group when there is no recognisable Freedom2Surf?I have always found everybody here most helpful and hope they are getting something back out of all the hard they work put in. Most of all this change just seems to make sense to me – keep up the good work!

This is why we approached F2S, so as to provide a similar site for Tiscali customers, of which they too could benefit from.

I am glad that you can see the wider picture, and fully understand the reasoning.

Freedom2support is a site for freedom2surf members / customers that is 100% unofficial. (freedom2surf amongst others is now owned by Tiscali) SkyUser is a site for Sky members / customers which is also 100% unofficial. SkyUser has now bought freedom2support, and is now going to make a brand new website for Tiscali customers, with the staff from freedom2support. Sky have already bidded on the buyout of Tiscali, along with Car Phone Warehouse and a couple of other companies. All that is happening is a rebrand and a more useful website, on a different domain. Confused, you should be Because I am now - lol

Just as a further update:
At the moment a large amount of behind the scenes work is going on to prepare for the transfer to the new Tiscali User site. Much of this work will be ongoing throughout the morning and afternoon but should not effect your ability to use the website. Following the completion of this work sometime late this afternoon hopefully, we will change all areas of the site to read-only before transferring all of the data to the new Tiscali User site where it will be re-uploaded and restructured to fit into the new website. Everybody's account will be transfered across to the new site unless you have decided to opt out. After Tiscali User opens it doors, the Freedom2Support forums and website will direct to Tiscali User. All threads and members and posts will continue to be available through the new site.

The Tiscali brand may cease to exist in a few weeks anyway .
Freedom2 support was dying over the last few months anyway getting fewer post . Possibly as main advice was to change broadband supplier . IF Tiscali is bought out by Carphone Warehouse the site will be rebranded to NotTiscaliSky user . Those who use the Tiscali Forums from Tiscali may be a little confused . Those who never use such forums will have no problem . jje Lineone/Tiscali/F2S/Pipex/Tiscali/Who's Next |

Re: Freedom2Support Acquired by Sky User
Quote:
As for forum accounts, an issue has been identified, that a number of emails sent to the old email address on the last newsletter sent by freedom2support, have not actually been actioned / or indeed received / passed onto SkyUser. We were under the impression that all outstanding requests, for cancellation of your forum account, had in fact been acted upon. For this we apologise. There are no email address's in use for the old domain, freedom2support.net and so therefore we are unable to act on any emails that you may send to the old freedom2support email address. We have no desire to annoy anybody, and respectfully ask that you PM any of the Tiscali User Team, to have your forum account immediately deleted, if that is your wish. If it makes things any easier you can also contact the Forum Admins using this online form, your request will be processed the same day. SkyUser have received no emails for the Freedom2support domain since 20th July, at which point we changed the forum announcement quoted above to add the information regarding to PM the team. We would like to apologise, if your emailed request has not been actioned, but this is only because the information was not passed onto us at the time of transfer of domains and data etc. |
