Freedom2Surf Launch New up to 16Mb/sec Broadband Packages

New broadband packages have appeared on the Freedom2Surf website, offering up to 16Mb/sec download and up to 1Mb/sec upload speeds by using ADSL2+ on the Tiscali LLU network.

The cheapest package (Lite) offers up to 8Mb/sec download and 448Kb/sec upload with a 10GB/month transfer allowance, similar to the previous range of packages. The other two packages (Pro and Premium) both make use of ADSL2+ to offer up to 16Mb/sec download and up to 1Mb/sec upload, and claim an unlimited transfer allowance. To get the faster speeds on these packages your local exchange needs to be Tiscali LLU enabled, and of course your speed depends on your line length/quality.

There are various extras with the packages similar to what the previous packages offered (free email, phone calls etc.). The Pro and Premium packages both come with a domain name which is registered as soon as the ADSL connection goes live and not at time of ordering the connection. These two packages also come with 200MB of commercial webspace, which is not available on the lite package.

The top (Premium) package comes with a "50Kbps download guarantee", which is about the speed of a fast dialup Internet connection. The website also mentions "Download guarantee for real time traffic", so it's possible traffic on this package gets priority over other users.

You can read the full details on the Freedom2Surf website

I remember a long time ago when the cascade products were introduced, I think, everyone who had the old 1Gb transfer cap was upgraded to 5Gb, will this happen to us now? Will we be upgraded to 10Gb at no charge? Is there an off peak time which doesn't count toward the transfer limit on the new packages?

Golly gosh - surely nobody in their right mind would choose this?

If you have Tiscali LLU available on your exchange then you almost definitely have some decent LLU specialist providers there too like SKY and O2 where you get far more for your money.

Without any traffic shaping whatsover.

Ed Jones, I would guess not as these are a new range of packages, but you should ask F2S really.

The thing I really don't get is the top package being an extra £10/month just for a "download guarantee". I really can't see that package doing well at all.

There's still no sign of a press release. If Tiscali can't be bothered to do that for F2S, it really doesn't look like they are that interested in them.

Just checked my phone line number to see what I'd be able to get on the 16 Mb ADSL2+ package and it suggested around 5.5 Mb. So I would still be within the 8Mb range. You'd think in an ideal world, that they would let me have ADSL2+ but let me pay the 8Mb prices

BTW I'm getting around 2.7Mb at the minute, which isn't great, but ADSL2+ would double that

Its so laughable one wonders what's next?

Paying an extra £10 for a Mac code within 5 days guarantee?

Log into your members area, and look for the Regrade option.

Anything inside this will retain your 'added' services such as email (giggle), webspace etc.

I'm on the old F2S 8Mb 20GB package, would I lose anything by regrading to the new 16Mb package?

Wow! The 50Kbps download guarantee on the new Premium Up To 16Mbps product speaks volumes about the state of the Tiscali network.

I was a happy F2S customer for 6+ years, but glad I bit the bullet and moved to ADSL24 in April. The current F2S is no longer the industry beating ISP which I joined.

I can never understand these. They're an All You Can Eat offer consisting of a small packed lunch.

Greetings folks ... long time since I've been here!

Just been reading the "great news" about Tiscali/f2s offering an up to 16Mbps product. What I didn't see was the price.

I know many former f2s customers have switched to ADSL24, so just as a comparison ...

ADSL24 are introducing their ADSL2+ service as I speak - and it is a 24Mbps download speed. Their cheapest package for the service is £11.99 per month and that gives you a 3Gb usuage limit during normal hours, and an unlimited download usage off-peak.

So, that's some information for comparison.

Do hope you are all well "over here"

Take good care ...

And what a useless speed they guarantee. This must also mean that the cheaper package will be throttled to near nothing.
