Hello all,

Connection was fine last night and have been reading about the situation above. But when i try to log in to check my router settings, a communication error occurs. Now what do you think i should do, hang fire and see if the issue is the maintenance above, or do a reset on my router as it could be a combined problem.

Updated the firmware on the router on sunday with no problems and a stable connection up until the maintenance this morning.

Thanks for your time!

BTW GW2 here, Manchester area!

Think i will be jumping ship also very soon, for the sheer fact of today, 12 hours downtime for 'routine' maintenance isn't the best really, and will worry and annoy the most placid of people like myself. For those who use the connection for business, god knows how you are feeling. It's a shame how f2s has gone, but i won't be caught in the trap of making continued concessions to a company who's service has become worryingly unstable.

Off to turn back on the router, any news???

I have got two friends/customers that are having issues, I have PM'd Helen on their behalf as neither has web access or a member of this forum to be able to ask themselves! One is on GW6 and one is on GW2. They both use USB modems, and live in the Yorkshire Dales.

I've got no connection here either (Leeds on GW6)

I'm getting an error message saying "invalid username or password" !!! I haven't changed anything so I'm guessing it's an F2S issue - it was working earlier but then lost the connection.

Anyone else getting this error message?

Ian

Maybe they should all go on a course! Or better still hand in their notice.

To answer my own question, "Invalid username or password" looks like it's the same as error no. 691 which others have been experiencing.

Down again

I knew it was too good to last - after getting things back to "normal", my connection is down yet again. I cannot believe how poor the service has become. This is beyond a joke. C'mon F2S, get your act together!

All
Sorry for not posting sooner.

I have just received an update from the Engineering team and they believe the fault has been fixed inconjunction with our suppliers.

They have tested in a number of lines and seen lines reconnecting straight away.

Those of you experiencing problems, can you please try again. A reboot to your router may be required if you continue to have problems.

I will provide a report on the problems experienced today later tomorrow.

As always, please accept my apologies for the inconvenience this has caused.

Regards
Helen

well I am not even sure I have had a problem came in from work at 15:30 (left early got graduation tomo) and it all seemed fine.

hope it doesnt go down although it wont matter till thursday when i need it.

out of intrest is it trainie engineers you have with some dude supervising them lol.....they probably like to break it apart and see how quickly they can sort it....took them 12 hours this time.

Has this outage and temporary fix caused speed issues tonight since I gather you had to by pass a few routers or something....or do you own redundancy kit...I be shocked.

Also if it was possible to put a temporary fix in place would it not have been better to do it sooner rather than later since the "fix" took something like 12 hours.

The issues experienced today were 2 different incidents.

This mornings issues was due to this mornings maintenance where customers were getting BT's IP addresses - this was fixed around midday.

This afternoons issue was new sessions not establishing.

Once again, I will confirm later tomorrow with more details.

Regards
Helen

These new sessions you talk about Helen.....

Me, and I guess many others, have always on connections that we never drop. My session was dropped remotely by F2S after 08:00 am today. I therefore became an involuntary new session and, along with many others, was not allowed to reconnect to F2S until after 18:00 pm.

Why were we dropped by F2S in the first place?

What business and technical risk assesments were undertaken, and what back-out proceedures were in place in case of failure; or did it just seem like a jolly wheeze that would happen regardless?

I've been watching this post all day and was affected this evening by the login problems, but was resolved fairly quickly.

I have to say I thought it a rather strange time of day and week to be doing this sort of 'maintenance' to the network!

Anyway, since I got my connection back, the speeds have been pretty rotten. I'm on ADSL Max and normally get speeds between 300 and 600k (mostly near the lower end of the scale), but tonight have been getting speeds worthy of a 512k connection! At one point I thought it might be quicker using a carrier pigeon!

Was there some sort of a problem in the network change which would cause this sort of slowdown in speed? My router's connected and synched at the same rates as normal so I can't see why the download speeds are so slow?

Anyone else having the same problem?

PS. Helen, I keep my eye on the forums regularly and your updates are much appreciated! Keep up the good work

Dear All

Would just like to say that Helen sent me a personal PM saying that she had looked into the details I had sent her and that, hopefully, all should now be fine.

And, indeed they are!

Manage to connect first try at 10.30 pm tonight (Tuesday)

Thank you Helen!

Best wishes,

Dr. Mac

Seems strange that when my connection works fine, they have to try upgrade the system and connection goes to hell. Like many others on here, we are getting sick of these endless upgrades only to find that in essence they are more like downgrades.

Given the number of complaints that there have been in the past when maintenance has been done at the weekend leaving outstanding issues and no-one manning the tech help desk, then overnight, Monday into Tuesday seems to be the *best* time to schedule the work.

No-one would be happy if upgrades were not done - MAX would have ground to an effective halt otherwise (though some might say it has)...

The apparent lack of a backout plan (or unwillingness to use it) when things started to go pear-shaped is not impressive though... Some parts of the country seem to have been effectively off the air for 12 hours. Where's the fallback planning?
