LLU Issues with Browsing and Email

Freedom2Surf have posted the following service alert with regards to problems with the LLU 8MB service provided over the Easynet platform.

We believe there is a potential issue with our LLU 8mb users. Symptoms are the inability to browse or retrieve their emails.

We have found that other internet services such as VOIP will continue to work. Our engineers are investigating the root cause of this issue.

Update 30th May: Freedom2Surf have updated their site saying the issue is now resolved:

Please try powering down your ADSL equipment and then retest. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

As an LLU user currently experiencing this "potential issue" it appears that the DNS servers 194.106.56.6 and 194.106.33.42 have become inaccessible via the easynet LLU for some reason. No DNS resolution this kills web browsing or e-mail access, and explains why users are able to access some sites (anything they have resolved in their local cache). The temporary workaround is to change your DNS to another server until they sort out the problems with the f2s ones.

'taint just LLU that's affected. I'm still on the 'cooking' version of Connect Home, and that problem's been intermittent over the last couple of days.

A good thing the pioneering spirit is still alive and kicking.

Yep definately a DNS problem. I have overriden my using the DNS servers that we use from work and I am managing to get some web access from home, still have issues with many websites though. Many still not loading at all, some very slow and some partially loading.

Do f2s use a web proxy server as well?

No they don't use a proxy server. I think it's not a DNS problem as even with different DNS servers people can't reach the email servers or the F2S site (that's what people have posted), which suggests a problem accessing part of the F2S network which has email, web, DNS etc servers on.

this isn't the first time this has happened, this exact same problem has been going on for months, you only have to read the forums to see it

Updates will be posted in this thread as and when they are avaliable.
This may have a whiff of "deckchairs, the Titanic and rearranging" about it, but can I suggest that F2S include dates in their website's Technical Support "Alerts section" or have an "Alerts Log" so that folks can easily identify new Alerts or updates re ongoing Alerts.

Me too. Webite really s l o w
ADSL is loosing emails (I have proof of this) and most days I get a whole bunch of emails sent >12 hours before all appear in one go.
The ADSL issue have been ongoing for months. Support tickets are never answered. Poor service and getting worse.
Im migrating any dependencies I have on F2S so I can find a new ISP.

gotta go

Yep, same here, just got the last problem fixed (f2surf support where actually efficient after my 50 minute / £4 phone call) but service has been down again for 2 days.

I've had six months of unreliability, I'd rather pay more to a company that at least answers the phone.

Cheers.

this may shed some light on how easynet are dealing with their outages?

http://www.easynet.net/support/statu...on=1&service=2

however I'm not sure if any of those relate to our problems....

We've been paying through the nose for an internet connection that hasn't worked AT ALL since 5pm Wednesday. You must be crackers to think anyone is going fix it, let alone update us over the bank holiday! Shame on you lol, who do you think we are? Royalty? lol
Cancel m8, that's what I've done and what many others should do, that'll wake them up! I'm also writing to the senior tech manager bloke, just got his address from the sales team (billing is closed over the bank holiday haha) So who ever wants to write for compensation, here's the details,

Senior Technical Manager
Freedom2Surf Ltd
Triangle Business Park
Stoke Mundeville
Buckinghamshire
HP22 5BD

I'll be drafting my letter later when I'm not so worked up

I'm actually going to try calling Sales tomorrow and see if they're there (and can issue a MAC).

Thumbs down Damn

Is there really any point me subsidising them any further by ringing their 0870 number ? I think not. You'd think they'd at least have the grace to update the message on their web site.

This is absolutely the last straw, they've had 6 months of unusual patience from me, not to mention the cash. At least even BT answer the phone, I'm off! This has been the worst ISP support I've ever seen.
Cheers,
Kev.

Dunno anything technical or understand technical jargon (LLU ), but all I know is that I had no internet connection all over the Bank Holiday weekend. My Homepage (Google) just kept saying something like "Waiting for connection". Was I alone?????

Bit ****ed with F2S, that they didn't seem to have any Technical Support coverage to sort this out.

Angry Easynet

I e-mailed Easynet and actually got a response, which is already an improvement on Freedom2Surf. It sounds like I might actually get some information out of them, if I do I'll try to post it here. Assuming I get something useful it will be interesting to see if Easynet's story matches f2s.

I note that the annoucement from f2s records a fault on Thursday, yet I saw the problem I think Tuesday but may have been Wednesday. I reckon it takes f2s that long to listen to their customers !

Freedom2surf is a bit of a misnomer these days I'm afraid.

A non 0870 telephone number would be really useful for those using 1899/18866 telephone services .....3p/4p per CALL, NOT per minute!!!
