I just went to the Freedom2Surf home page and I found out they are limiting Anytime to 20 hours per week, any reason why they are doing this, and does it just effect new users or existing?

Already had this query once, Mail from Freedom2Surf :

Hi - Yes, this is the same for all our users. The service is contended
at 9:1 which is about 20 hours per user per week.
So I guess you are limited, it's a pity really, as the service was quite good, I was going to sign up a few weeks ago

Thumbs down

Really ? No one's informed me !!! ( (what a surprise) Do you have any idea from when this 20 hour limit is effective ??? ( I've been using this service for about a month and a half, while I've been waiting for my ADSL service to be activated ! What happens if you exceed the 20 hours ? Do they charge you ? Does it appear as a charged call on your phone bill ? Or nothing. I hope it's nothing otherwise I'm screwed. I'm sure I use it for more than 20 hours a week (sad isn't it !).

May be I should be asking F2S these questions !

Regards,

Jaidip

According to the communication we have had from Freedom2Surf, apparentley this has come into effect a week or so ago, although details are pretty thin on the ground to be honest.

I doubt they will charge you on top of your phone bill, as they are really supposed to contact you if they make any changes to the terms and conditions of service, and anyway, anytime goes through your credit/debit card, and so therefore it will not be charged to your phone bill, and I think it's dobutful they will charge your card, as there is not anything in the T&C when you signed up about this.

It may be that it's not a strict limit, just maybe to preserve the service for other users, but if you are using a lot more than 20 hours per week, they may end your contract or cut you off.

I get through a lot more than 20 hours per week, but thats why I'm not with F2S, I would have ADSL, but the exchange hasn't been upgraded around here yet.

You're best bet is to probbably email/phone F2S themselves, you may get further if you can phone them. You can find the contact details on their website.

If you do contact them, and get a reply, could you let me know in some way what the situation is regarding their Anytime plan since this change, as we could help other people with this problem.

I never really thought it would last for long, as £11.99 is exceptionally good value when you see what they threw in with it when they launched it, and I guess it's just to earn them a little bit extra, They should really release a totally unlimited package though too.

Good Luck

Cool

Yeah £11.99 is a good price for 24/7 dial up access given that BT charge that for there off peak "Surftime" service. In addition the dial up service is pretty quick and there is no problem with P2P like Kazaa either ;-). I guess they must be using a separate gateway for this compared to ADSL.

I'll probably give them a call today and I'll post what I find out. Hopefully I should be on ADSL by the middle of this week Anyway thanks for the help !
