XBOX360 versus BILLION FIREWALL
The Router wins.
I can eventually connect to XBOX live via my 7404VGP after discovering i needed to set up 3 virtual server rules (despite F2S telling me he had a similar setup and all he had was default settings apart from his login details) but I can not connect to XBOX live if my firewall is enabled . Can anyone please help as i am not too thrilled having my firewall down (yeah I now i can use the inbuilt one in XP but whats the point in the router having one if i cant use it ?) Does anyone get on with these 2 bits of hardware ?

hi wobbles
I too am having the same problem with a billion 7650G, I have posted my problem on the euogamer forum if i get any response i will update this thread. My other solution is to enable the firewall and go through the rules on the packet filter one by one changing them and run the xbox live test between each change to see if any of them are stopping it. If you have better ideas please drop me a message or update this post. Cheers |

I gave up trying to get set up the firewall in the router.
If it is running as a NAT router it isn't that vital anyway as any unsolicited packets, other than those directed to the virtual server ports, will be dropped anyway. Unless you need to restrict those ports to a few external ip addresses, or restrict outgoing access to certain hosts the firewall won't give you any benefit. I generally recommend running a personal firewall on the pc anyway, but that is to stop anything unwanted on the machine phoning home, which an external firewall can't do anyway. |

I had a lot of trouble setting up the firewall on my 7402VGP too, but got excellent help from the Billion support site: http://www.billion.uk.com/esupport. I didn't get anywhere with the initial e-mails they sent, but then they phoned me up and talked me through what to do. It's worth persevering.
