PC is reluctant to start
My PC is reluctant to start, I turn it on at the wall 13 amp socket, then press the button on the front of the PC, and nothing happens. After a while the PC will start, the time I have to wait for the pc to start is getting longer. Last week it started after, probably less than a minute, but today it was over 10 minutes.
This happens the first thing in the morning, if after the PC has been running, I turn the PC off and immediately on again it will restart ok The PC is four years old. Has anyone any idea what could be wrong? |

Re: PC is reluctant to start
It sounds a bit like how my PC behaved when the power supply was dying. When you turn it on at the wall socket, the power light on the front comes on briefly and goes off. This gradually took longer and longer to happen after you turned it on at the wall socket, until eventually you had to wait minutes, and it wouldn't boot until this happened. It's a Dell Dimension 4600i, and apparently lots of people have had the problem but Dell refuse to admit there's a problem with the power supply they put in them. Anyway, replacing the power supply fixed it and it's been fine since.

My symptoms sound just like yours Adam !!
Can I get any ATX Power supply of the same wattage or do the fittings / cables differ |

Re: PC is reluctant to start
Yeah I would think an ATX power supply would do. When I got mine though I looked up reviews and other info about the power supply to check it would do the job.

Re: PC is reluctant to start
These days you should be fine with a new one, just look at the inside of your PC first and determine how many different power connectors you need, ie, sata/molex/floppy/cpu etc.
You should be alright though, good luck!
