PSU upgrade question
Hi,
I'm upgrading my FSP 300W power supply unit and am not keen to spend too much on a replacement but on the other hand, would like a well known, reliable make. I've seen a Coolermaster 430W at a very reasonable price but was wondering if I should be looking for a higher wattage. I reckon it should be more than enough but would be interested in anyones view. I'd rather not buy a "generic" PSU. Online games are played on the PC. Price is £40 for the 430W unit. Thanks |

I strongly recommend for you to go for a Hiper PSU, I have one and have never looked back.
they offer excellent stability, are extremely quiet and offer a generous selection of extras which will serve you continously for your every need. They are very popular with gamers. the type r series are the best, I have a 580W, they come in a handy little tool box and have a patented modular design so you can attach cables when needed. they really do rock, I have great experience of using it, you will never find yourself frustrated with one of these PSUs, it makes cable routing and selection very easy. They keep the noise and heat down, less wasted power, lower emissions. depending what hardware you have will dictate what PSU you should go for, it's good to have plenty of power for stability, especially if you're a gamer with demanding components. http://www.hipergroup.com/English/products/power.html you get what you pay for, don't expect to pay a very low price for the type r babies, but they aren't a rip off. edit: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/searc...olShowAll=true looking at these prices at ebuyer (where I got mine) prices of the black type r 580w have gone up, cause I got mine for around £50-£60. Feel free to read reviews

Thanks for the info acidtechno. Appreciate your reply. I looked at these units and they do seem pretty impressive. Unfortunately I'm stuck with a budget of £40 and when comparing the Hiper equivalent at that price, there seems little difference.
Cheers. |

the type-m series are cheaper, closer to the £40 mark, the only difference is they haven't got the modular design.
you might want to look into antec instead, who offer some quiet and reliable power supplies. I used to ignore the importance of a power supply, but decided to spend a little bit more than relying on a case psu, which is usually noisy and not the most reliable, especially for upgrading your parts later on. like I said before, it depends what parts you have, feel free to list them here, if you plan to go SLI, then you obviously need more power. |

If you're local to North London I think I've got one you can have for free.

Thanks for your kind offer Stephen but unfortunately I'm north of the border so couldn't take you up on that.
As for Antec, acidtecno, I've looked at them and other makes but the online prices plus delivery always seem to come out to more than my budget when looking around 430W. There were quite a few cheaper generic units but I'd rather use a brand name. So I've gone to my local shop and bought the Coolermaster. First impressions are good, time will tell. Thanks. |
