New one on me, this. Feeling adventurous for a change (well, bored out of me skin, in truth) I signed up and downloaded the software.

Also being a bittofa sad git, I had a shufti at the small print and don't much care for this:

'2.1.2. The Joost™ Software will utilize the processor, bandwidth and hard drive (or other memory or storage hardware) and/or cache of your computer (or other applicable device) for the limited purpose of facilitating the communication between, and the transmittal of data, content, programming, services or features to, you and other Joost™ Software users, and to facilitate the operation of the network of computers running instances of the Joost™ Software.'

Shades of Skype - nicking peoples' bandwidth?

My jury's out on this one. Any thoughts, anyone?

Are we all underwhelmed then? I think I am, now that I've had a nose around. Seemingly, we're talking lots of Megabits for this.

'Joost has already been the subject of some concern, as most new budget broadband users in one of its launch markets, the UK, are capped. Joost uses a lot of bandwidth: a note on the company's website explains that an hour's TV downloads up to 320MB and uploads as much as 105MB.'

I don't think underwhelmed is the word. - Of course its going to use a lot of bandwidth, its TV over IP. - And yes, the small print up there does say effectively p2p tv over ip, so yes it isn't suitable for those on entry level capped products.

I think the concept is a cracking idea and its very popular.

320MB in this day and age is really nothing, but I take onboard that if people are capped, then yes this could be a problem.
