Possibly moving from F2S

Ive been with F2S quite a few years now and have been more or less satisfied with the service given. Ive had to call tech support in total about 3 times in the 2-3yrs ive been with F2S and ive alway got through and had the problem solved.
I recently moved to a village where BT states I should get 2mb or greater connection and on a good day im syncing at 3400ish and ive never syncd lower than 2500 since moving.

Be have just enabled my exhange and im considering moving over to them, but as I live around 3.45km from exchange im wondering what sort of sync speed Id recieve and wondered if anybody had an idea or experieced moving to BE on this sort of distance.
My router is a Netgear DG834GT the router stats as of now are
Connection Speed 2976 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 61.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 13.1 db 16.0 db

Im just trying to the get the most from my line possible be it with F2S , Be or whoever as long as service is good and connection is stable im not bothered.

Hi yorkshiremark

I'm no expert on line speeds but your attenuation suggests that you are a long long way from the exchange and I'd actually be surprised if be* agreed to provision you.

If they did then I wouldn't expect you to see any more speed that you're getting now.

However on the bright side you'll have an unlimited service with no traffic shaping or any other hidden restrictions so for those reasons I'd recommend it every time.

Might be worth giving be* a call on 0808 234 8566 (freephone number) as they should be able to give you an estimate.

Hope this helps

Keith

Sounds like be* are being over cautious. I would give them a call and ask to speak to a supervisor to confirm this.

Well I rang Be today and all they would say is im 5.5km from the exchange and they could only guarantee 1meg connection.
All seems rather odd to me.

They just told me I'm 900m from the exchange and could get about 16mb. In reality I'm 100m from the exchange and hopefully could get more!

100m as the crow flies or did you trace the line?

It's literally up the road and round the corner. Probably less than 50m as the crow flies.

Thats good stuff, especially if you look at Be as you say in your other post.
