router request

Hi,

Sometimes I have a strange problem where my router admin log in username and password fields go blank and I have to fill them back in to access my router pages, I'm using latest firefox and have passwords to be remembered, I have no problems with anything else.

Sometimes I notice that when my xfire messaging program disconnects, I go to check the router page and that's when the user and pass is blank, msn strangely stays connected though.

My sync speed is still the same usually, so it is not a resync, because I usually notice when I get a resync, because everything disconnects and I have to wait a min to get connectivity back.

Any ideas what could be causing this problem? could it be the CAT cable at fault? why would firefox lose the user and pass info? or does the router store it?

any help appreciated.

have a Linksys WAG354G V.2

It sounds like firefox/xfire causing the issue.

The remembering of passwords is browser side not remote. - But if the router does something funky it may be firefox thinking its a 'new' site/resource so being in its own merit blanking it out.

I'd doubt its the CAT5 cable but you could test it out by blasting your router with packets and check if any of them fragment or show up crc failed.

:/

I've no idea how to blast my router with packets, the linksys has a ping testing page, which I tried and all works fine.

linksys status page does not list crc errors...

To be honest I don't see how xfire can interfere with router access.

I'm going to tinker with IE if it happens and see if it's firefox specific.

I've enabled upnp now to let xfire be managed automatically (among other progs like azureus and msn).

in addition I have dhcp disabled and use static IP.

I find this happens to me when using IE, for my router and for my LAN Drive. It also happens with the web-based systems I use for work that use the IE username/password dialogue. It's a pain. I have two theories 1) it happens when the remote device logs off after an idle period and 2) it happens when the saved username+pw is rejected - it's almost as if it tries it before you are even prompted. Firefox has it's own password manager of course but perhaps it's behaviour is the same as IE's in this respect (for security reasons??).
