Firefox & Flash crashes
I've been tearing my hair out with this, sometimes firefox crashes because of flash content, using the latest flash version 9,0,28,0 from 11/14/2006
sometimes firefox freezes up and loses functionality because of flash content, tabbed browsing does not work then if using multiple pages, especially multiple pages of flash content. I then have to close firefox using task manager, when I do that, a pop up box appears saying shockwave flash has performed an illegal operation and has to close, then the screen appears with a black box over it and closes really quickly. I've tried everything to get rid of the problem, reinstalling flash and firefox, that includes registry entries also. I've only just reformatted this year, with an aim to get rid of the problem which I had late last year too. It was fine for a while after my reformat, but then the problem appeared again. I did suffer from some spyware not long ago, and the problem only appeared to happen after that, but my system is clean now so I have no idea now. I believe the latest flash to be the problem in firefox, and needs to be bug fixed, it has not been updated since november 2006, and I did some searching and found others have problems with flash in firefox sometimes, and I did find someone from adobe/macromedia posting on the mozilla forums about some bug fixing was in the works for flash. It really is so annoying because I have come to love firefox, but the problem does not happen in IE.. I may have to use IE7, since it has tabbed browsing. using win xp pro/sp2 anyone else suffer a similar problem? |

wow, well I think I may have fixed the problem. I'm running a bunch of sites playing flash content/videos and haven't crashed yet.
I downloaded AVG Anti-Rootkit Free, and ran it, and it found 2 files, AVG Anti-Rootkit Free found these when AVG Anti Virus Free did not - but this is my fault for having real time AVG protection turned off to free up resources. I think the files are related to the spyware I mentioned previously. keep in mind I became infected from only looking at/visiting a web page in the past at some point using firefox, something installed itself automatically. I will now keep AVG anti virus turned on from now on... ![]() I recommend this: AVG Anti-Rootkit Free - http://free.grisoft.com/doc/39798/lng/us/tpl/v5 |

One machine (out of 3), recently had new hard drive fitted, xP reloaded and new drivers etc. including flash. Problem occurs both with firefox and IE7 (although less with IE7!). It is most obvious on a multiroom chatroom where we switch between rooms. Just get the error masssage "Firefox / IE7 has encountered an error and needs to close". BUT the chatrooms are still running in the background and will still respond / change rooms etc. Like I said, three machine on same connection, all xP pro SP2, fully updated, all with latest flash. Have run AVG Antiroot Kit - machine was clean. Machines have a mixture of AVG Anti virus (OK) and NOD32 (problem machine) with zone alarm. My guess is that it is a recent MS update that is causing the problem - which one though?? |
