Pipex - new FUP warning letters

Interesting follow up article from thinkbroadband below on Pipex and their new FUP warning letters:

Quote:
Two weeks ago it sent warning letters to a small number of customers warning them that their usage levels were in excess of the levels that Pipex views as normal home use. Unfortunately Pipex does not detail in the letter either the customers actual usage or what constitutes normal home use. This letter gave customers 14 days to respond with a choice from one of three options:

It's laughable isn't it, especially when the Pipex page entitled "All the Facts" lists it as unlimited and no FUP noted. It really is Ironic!

I still suspect ISP's like Pipex give backhanders to Ofcom so they continue to ignore such blatant mis-selling.

when vodaphone rang me about their new vodaphone at home service I of course asked about their fup as it didnt state what the limit was anywhere in their conditions. The women replied with basically "well if we think you are using it for business use - downloading all the time". I then asked for specific figures which she couldn't/wouldn't give. So I said to her that I was expected to sign up to an 18 month contract with no idea of the actual conditions, to which she replied I'll take you off the list then and hung up.

A prime example of a 'business' who has had their head in the sand throughout the last couple of years of broadband use.

Trouble is most people aren't as sensible....

Most people think "ooh that looks cheap/good value" and then sign up without doing any research in the mistaken belief that there is some form of protection in place to ensure the ISP provides what it says it would.

Which is why the market is dominated by fake unlimited FUP-wielding ISP's.

Even doing research before signing up offers no real protection as, it appears, FUPs can simply be changed at any time!

Just saw their god awful TV ad's with the Hoff in them, banging on about their telephony package, no mentions of FUP or anything in the small print

No 10 urged to throttle 'unlimited' broadband claims

Hi Guys,

If anyone is interested but you can petition the Prime Minister to Insist that OFCOM and the ASA stop Broadband Providers advertising 'unlimited' services that are in fact limited in the small print or by un-defined fair use policies.
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Unlimited-ADSL/

I've signed up...

Thanks,

Norm
