im new to the whole website thing and am haiving problems getting mu first simple page onto my f2s site... im using a mac and html creator and fetch.. ive created a page in html creator but when i try and upload using the 'put files' option in fetch.. the file seems to upload okay but when i then go to my website its not there just a "forbidden - you dont have permission to access / on this server" message..

very confused by the whole thing..
i must be doing something really basic wrong but i cant figure out what!

Is your home page called index.html? If not rename it to this and it should solve the problem.

you're half a genius! its solved half the problem.. now i have a webpage with an email link below a red box with a white X in it where my lovely picture should be.. any ideas why the picture isnt appearing?

ive just spotted fetch says its a text file so of course the picture wouldnt work.. what am i doing wrong? i thought i create a file in html creator, preview it and check it looks right, then save it, then rename it to index.html and use put file in fetch to put it online..

do i need to save it in a different way before i leave html creator?

confused still..

Its probably looking to say c:\documents and settings\wallofbeans\my pictures\picture.gif.

When you add images to your site you need to make sure it loads them using the filename itself in the folder ... for example images/picture.gif not the c;\blahblahblah\blahblah\

Its difficult to explain but if you like, pm me the URL to your site and ill see what its looking for and tell you what to change it to...

Oh, and you have uploaded the image right? ... Not just the html document ... the image too.

ah.. i hadn't done that (complete novice i know).. but now i have and the next problem is...

IE tries to load the image but it instead goes back to the X and says "the program was unable to load an image because of low system memory"

i don't get it.. its only a 76k jpeg (saved for web in photoshop) which opens perfectly well when previewing through html creator..

any genius advice on what to do next?

thanks for all your help so far!

EDIT: my bad! ive fixed it! seems to work now!
will bother you all again if it goes pear shaped..
thanks!
