Card Fraud ... !!

I've just had a call from my bank, asking me if I was trying to use my Visa card to buy £1,000 plus worth of computer equipment from Dabs .... !!!!!

Needless to say I screamed quietly & said no ... (didn't say I'd stopped buying from Dabs when they got expensive .. ) ....

This is only the second card this has happened with, and it's twice within twelve months .... has anyone else noticed an increase in fraud? Anything to do with chip & pin perhaps?

again? sorry to hear...

remember I said I was a victim 1-2 months ago, that was a purchase for probably computer equipment too, not at dabs though.

I did use dabs to buy something recently, and they have a new protection in place for maestro cards (and probably others), MasterCard SecureCode, which offers extra protection when a card is used to make purchases, all stores should use it!

I think the protection is voluntary at first though if I remember rightly, so someone can probably bypass that protection if the real user has never shopped with a store that uses it.

I think maybe Visa's got something similar - but it's not common yet & has caused some controversy by appearing as a pop-up while on-line shopping; similar to some phishing / scam pop-ups ... !

Had they said Ebay I'd have blamed it on your alternate personality.

In fact thats probably why they phoned. They were confused why you were buying from dabs instead of ebay users. - Thats how they work out fraud for you!

I thought it was just me as I've had the phone call from two credit card companies within the last month. One card having been used in Argos for £700 and another card used on i-tunes (twice) for £1.00 each.

Everything fully resolved but two credit cards with NIL balances and not used for months being the victim of fraud within such a short space of time seems so wrong.

Strange ... if it was just one then maybe it could have been a fluke - someone just producing random numbers, but two ... ?!
