Any spare pc's
Strange request. I am a governor at an Infant & Nursery school. we are currently looking at upgrading our ICT suite but as yet are in the early stages (design and costing). However, 4 (out 15) of our school PC's have packed up.
Just wondered if any on had any redundant pc's wanting a good home to tide us over until we have fully upgraded? |

What kind of PC's are we talking about Mr Pecker? .. I mean, Windows XP? or Windows 98, etc. Are they networked?
Also, define packed up. - Are they fixable in the hands of someone in the field? |

You should post a request on your local "Freecycle" site for this sort of thing. You'd be surprised at what might turn up!

I have an old 15" CRT that still works which I don't use anymore, but Yorkshire is a little too far from Kent...
although it's all LCD now in schools I think - or should be, better for the eyes ![]() I thought schools were easily supplied with computer equipment - and with funds from government? edit: nm, I just realised you need some machines to get you through until you upgrade. |

We have 450 stations at work, of which 150 are laptops, leaving 300 of which only circa 60 are TFT. We're still running CRTs in 15" and 17" variants.
Whilst I appreciate its better for the eyes, they find it harder to damage a CRT compared to a soft faced TFT. - When I have the cash, yes I'll upgrade the rest to TFT, but I'd sooner upgrade my users from idiot v1 to plonker v2 which apparently has less violent tendancies. And yes, there is funding, but not a great deal. |

Thanks all.
They are networked and win XP The monitors are fine it is just the PC itself I would think they could be fixable by some one in the know. As chaz says there is funding, but it is limited and will be taken up by the new ICT suite in due course (perhaps next 12 months) but we are in a 3 year budget cycle. I will also look on freecyle, thanks moomin |
