heh, hey guys, thank you.
I was blessed with bad luck last week when a power surge cooked my psu, motherboard, cpu & memory. (It even cooked the surge protector which apparently, I can't claim on because i didn't register it at the time of purchase). I managed to locate some cash to buy a few new bits so I am back online. Thank you both

![]() sounds terrible to have to experience that, as long as you didn't get cooked that's the important thing. Did the surge happen in a storm? all that computer gear wasted but your hard drive(s) survived? I'm surprised and think you're a lucky boy there, had you backed up the data on your drives, so if they had died you wouldn't have lost your data?unlucky about the surge protector, was it a Belkin? I'm pretty sure I've seen those say they cover equipment up to the value of £50, 000 I'm curious to know what gear actually got fried, perhaps some candles of rememberence are in order in addition to the birthday. |

A point maybe worth mentioning - we had a power surge a while ago which took out our TV, video, etc and I phoned the power company to complain. The upshot was that I was advised that I could claim against their insurance, which I did, and ended up with all new, replacement items!

Happy Birthday from me too Chaz. Keep eating the birthday cake and keep your sticky paws away from the keyboard (that way I'll have a quiet day! - only kidding!!)

Quiet day? Working for an ISP? In my experience those words don't go together!
But happy birthday Chaz anyway - Enjoy your title

Awww... look at my shiny title. - Cheers Team.
Everyone else, thank you so much. Acid, yeah, it was a cheap masterplug job, but i can't claim as i didn't register it when i bought it, funny eh? .. Also, I'll never use a cheap (sub £40) PSU again as I think thats where the short started, since my monitor and other bits in the surge protector survived (it didn't!). Thankfully yes, my drives survived, and my last back up was indeed a month ago, so I've learnt my lesson there. I've spent the last few days reinstalling gentoo, but in 64bit mode to see if theres any noticable difference! Thanks once again all! |

Poor chaz seems to spend most of his time formatting and installing different operating systems.. I think any more and he's liable to explode. Hopefully it was all out the way so you could enjoy the day, and get legless.
To yourself, and to Justin also... Bon Anniversaire! (belated )
