Router Stats Change
Bit of information please .
That is do router stats change on a very frequent basis . I am trying to sort out an ongoing disconnect problem . What i have noticed is that my Billion 5200G router shows sync stats of 5.0 if i then move from the device info page to system log page and back all in a few seconds i get a change of sync to 6.5 do it again and i get 5.5 followed by 6.0. Current log in stats show 6.5 if i then refresh the page sync has changed to 6.0 Question really is does this constanst almost second by second sync change indicate probable router fault or line/filter fault . jje |

Re: Router Stats Change
Swop to old Buffalo router sync drops to 4480 SNR steady on 13
But speed drops from previous average of 6MB to 3MB . jje |

Re: Router Stats Change
If the sync speed changes you are losing/regaining sync to the exchange which isn't normal over such a short period of time.
Are you sure its the sync changing between 6.0 and 6.5? That sounds like the SNR. It's no surprise the speed drops on the old router as the sync has dropped to 4480.

Re: Router Stats Change
I meant SNR.
Further tests show no difference if connect to master socket . Position at the moment is connect F2S Billion router and i get average speed of 6MB but dropped connections usually in the peak hours only . If i want a more stable connection then i can swop to Buffalo router that gives a higher SNR but lower Speeds and SYNC . Router is responsible for the SNR .I thought that it was the noise on the line margin . About to flash the Billions firmware to see if i get different results . jje |

Re: Router Stats Change
The SNR fluctuations are normal which is why BT set their default target snr to 6dB to allow for fluctuations without line resync.
Some routers are better at holding sync than others, my old dlink would hold sync at 0dB which was I'm sure an error on its reporting.

Re: Router Stats Change
Chaz why would sync be 13 one minuet and 5 the next minuet when all that has happened is that a different brand of router is connected .Likewise why should speed drop in the space of 5 minuets only to rise 5 minuets later when all that has happened is tha router is changed .
Its seems that low snr = faster connection download speed but more likely to drop out . Higher snr = lower connection download speed but more stable . With a firmware update on the Billion router speed now 4184 from SNR now up to 13 and sync now 5184 As opposed to pre firmware update of speed 6000 from an SNR of 6 and sync of 7616. |

Re: Router Stats Change
It's likely the router is either reporting wrong, or isn't as "happy" as the other.
Some routers have compatibility preferences/issues with the DSLAM in the exchange. - Some are just software glitches which given you've updated the firmware and got a difference suggests this.

Re: Router Stats Change
This is a LLU connection .
What i dont really understand is why the SNR changes so dramatically in a second . The router may report the SNR wrong but it also dramatically increases the speed . What i now have is choice of SNR 13 and much lower speed Using one router . Swop that router and SNR of 4-5 to 6 but much faster speeds . Since March i have been on LLU with the low SNR and faster speeds rock solid connection until the last few weeks .Something of late has pushed the SNR to unstable from just on the border line . Conclusion want faster speeds get a duff router ?? jje |

Re: Router Stats Change
It would be worth testing another router to see what it yields.

Re: Router Stats Change
Buffalo router returns SNR 13 sync 4180 speed 4mb .
Where does the exchange measure SNR their end or from my router . I am at the moment on Billion router latest firmware download speed 4096 SNR 17 SYNC 5024 . timed at 10-50 and am now going to attempt to return to the old firmware . jje |

Re: Router Stats Change
Check out Kitz's Site to answer your SNR question amongst others ... a really good resource site she has there.
If previously the billion sync'd higher it could be dodgy firmware, which version are you on with which model?

Re: Router Stats Change
Billion Bipac 5200G R4
Firmware very latest > 2.11.38.0 (REO.C29) 10.5.0 SNR 13-17 SYNC 4928 Previous Firmware 2.10.50 as came with router SNR 4.5 to 6 SYNC 7616 . Looks like i need a firmware hack to get the speed i have now lost . Yesterday speed was dependant upon which router i connected One at 6MB or the other at 4MB Where i am puzzled is going on average results SNR is 13 with one router I can SYNC at 7616 on this line and get download speeds of 6MB with another router. So if F2S send me a new router as the existing one is faulty looks like i will have a slower connection . If it was possible to drop the SNR to 8 would i then get a faster connection ? jje |
