New F2S Max Connection - Daft Question
Like the title says, I have a question which might be considered a bit stupid...
I have arranged for Max ADSL on my Mother in Law's telephone line with a scheduled activation date of 26th March. Her new PC has been delivered and I am going next weekend 31st March (armed with new router) to set up the PC and connect her to the broadband service. My question is about the 10 day training period for the MAX connection. Does this begin when the line is activated or does it start from when a modem conection is first established? I am assuming it would be the latter but I 'm sure someone on the forum knows the answer. If the training period does begin from the activation date, what would be the effect of not having any equipment connected to the service?

I would have thought it would have to physically connect at both ends of the line i.e. exchange to modem, i dont think the 10 day period would start untill then.

It will start from the first sync made between the modem/router with the exchange equipment.

Thanks for the responses. Confirms what I thought but best to make sure.

unplugging the modem
What happens to the BRAS rate thingy if you unplug the modem half way through the 10 day setup period?
My Max ADSL is due to start from today but the PC is isn't in the correct room yet, so i'll end up moving the modem after a few days to the room where the PC will end up staying. Will the BRAS rate drop really low or will it start again from scratch? |

The main thing is to avoid lots of connects / reconnects. The BT software sees these as problems with the connection and starts dropping the connection speed until the disconnects stop.
It has to cope with PC modems that get switched on and off in the natural way so the odd connect / disconnect doesn't harm it. It will be best for your system to have the best connection during the training period, however the system does seem to respond to better line conditions at any time and increase the connection speed. |
