Invalid username or password.

More and more often, when I try to connect to the net, i get the "invalid username........" thing happening.

I then try to connect again and after a few tries I connect....using my usual username / password.

Am I alone in this situation or are others having this annoying occurrence?

You aren't alone. People have reported it, f2s say they fix it, more people report it. You get the idea. Its their end not yours.

Thanks!

The last time this happened I was in effect offline for about 10 hours.

At present it`s an inconvenience in that I can connect ...but not always at the first attempt.

Good to see I'm not the only one with this problem

This last few weeks I have experienced numerous occasions when my attempts resulted in Error 691 messages (invalid password) before eventually connecting (after anything from 2 - 10 retries). Am also getting Error 718 messages (connection terminated because remote computer failed to respond in a timely manner). Couldn't connect at all last Sat evening due to a combination of both the above...connecting on Sun was fine.

Ticket raised today.

Exactly the same here, same error messages, usually connects after 5/6 attempts.

Started to look round for something better,

Pat.

Same probs here mate, If you retype your password it usually connects faster, but not always, like you say i've been unable to connect for hours because it doesn't recognise my username or password. Getting a bit fed-up with it and its happening more and more.

Yes - same here...

I've spent several hours setting up Windows XP on a rather old but still useful Toshiba Laptop - a Satellite Pro Celeron 500 - enough to run XP and Office - but only with USB 1.1

After 2 fekin hours of re-installing and trying 2 different USB ADSL modems
and getting - 'invalid user name...da dah da...on the domain ' - thinking it's the XP installation or the USB 1.1 port....NO !

No ! .... It turns out its the half wits at Freedom2surf...again.

I can only assume they have taken on more Graduate Engineers with 10 Grade A - A levels and a First class Honours in - not being able to read or write - but at least they are practical ' hands on' and has any one every told you, you are not worth a \/\/***k..

EDIT--------
After several frustrating hours of intsalling - you come to the conclusion - it's your Internet Service Provider - ISP - NOT providing
a Service - that's just crazy !

If you walked into a fish and chip shop...
" Fish and chips , please "....no..
" just a Fish ? ".....no
" some chips...? "...no
" are you being funny with me ?.." *smack in teeth*

On the 22nd I received the following reply from Tech Support in response to my ticket (mentioned in my post in this thread on the 21st)

"I am not aware of any recent outages that would have caused this problem. What happens if you re-enter your Username/Password?"

A suitable reply was sent.

Today I have received the following

"I have been informed today that we do have a general issue with authentication which is currently being looked into as a top priority".

I have no doubt this latest bit of information will put everyone's mind at rest regarding this issue and that it will be resolved shortly

We thought we had signed up for internet provision! I think we are all taking part in the development of a new type cludo game. However I have to say my speeds [during the day] have this week improved no-end. Not however after 6pm. No change in my line stats: This recent snag that requires repeated attemps to log on is a bind. I also notice that once having established a sync: there is 'often' quite a longish delay before gaining full contact, as though waiting in line join the net.

Except for the issue wherby you cant login for hours on end, retry or not (like the authentification issues on GW2, lucky me, thats what im on), this does appear to be a problem especially for USB modems.

Ive never had this problem on my DG834. It recently plonked out and I've had to use the old USB modem while the router goes out for a fix. I have to retry anywhere between not at all to 10 times.

Whether I'm wrong because the router might retry over and over by itself (which i dont beleive it is doing, because that takes time and when using my router it connected almost instant) I'm not 100% sure. But from what I can see, USB modems in conjunction with F2S are the problem.

These error messages are a daily hazard for me. Therefore it is important to have a dial-up backup connection which I find more stable.

I recently came across the following website www.mipcards.com which, for £10, offers 2000 minutes of anytime dial-up connection - 1/2 pence per minute. Currently they are offering 30 minutes of free anytime connection for signing up online.

I can't even raise a ticket!!

I am glad I'm not the only one suffering the invalid password frustrations. This is compounded by my password not being recognised to let me raise a ticket - and guess what, my request for a password is rejected. An email to support gets the message 'Please raise a ticket!!'

Well at least I'm connected for the moment, maybe I'll google for other providers.

I've also been afflicted by the 'invalid user' problem over the last few days. I thought it was something I was doing wrong myself - I recently had a hard disk failure and ended up having to reload everything, either from scratch or from backed-up data.

So I was very pleased to find this site as a result of a Google search. At least I now know that it isn't down to 'user error' - I think!

I've raised a ticket with f2s and told them that, if the improvements promised by mid-September in their MD's recent e-mail circular are not forthcoming, I shall be looking at the offerings of rival ISPs.

Thanks for all the posts.

Having initiated this thread last week I`m "glad" that it`s an F2S fault and not one that I have caused.

Also raised a ticket about 5 days ago........no reply!
