f2s staff moving

Here is conformation from PIPEX that they are moving :

I can confirm that we will be relocating the F2S operation (including all the staff) to Stoke Mandeville which is the Head Office of PIPEX Group, as well as group staff we have located at this site PIPEX Network Services and Nildram staff.
The main change taking place is that we are currently building our new F2S network, all hardware has been delivered and it is on schedule to be live by the end of February.

Lol, they must have forgotten this bit:

Oh, and they're changing they're name and branding to 'PIPEX', too.

I must agree that the performance and speed of F2S has seriously deteriated during January and having spoken to a member of staff today they too are feeling post peeved with what is happening. So much so that the majority are leaving to new pastures. It was also confirmed that most subscribers are migrating to either Zen or Newnet. It is a real shame that over a period of 1 month F2S have gone from an excellent ISP provider to the bottom of the list.....

I will be waiting for a few days to see of the service improves as promised, if not I too will be migrating.

I finally managed to speak to Tech Support yesterday on another issue and the guy I spoke to mentioned that f2s are losing a 'significant number' of subscribers, not enough to damage the company, but the loss is being felt.

He also mentioned that he was leaving soon himself so I guess some of the rumours have some truth in them.

Pity, I rather liked it here...

Makes sound buissness sence to relocate to the newer pipex head office, which will be a much more pleasant place for all to work, compared to the current location.
I'm sure some staff will not be able to travel the short distance to the new offices due to transport issues, but to some it might be a shorter trip to work...

I wonder how many customers have left f2s? 50? 100? 200?

John, if F2s is becoming just another branch of Pipex there`s no
point in having this separate board as there is already a Pipex one.
Perhaps you could run this operation for another more deserving ISP.
I escaped from Pipex once, they are a rubbish company.
They will start capping everyone who uses more than 20gb a month.
They want only light users hence the latest F2s service annoucement.

But we don't run this board for the ISP, we run it for the users. There are still thousands of users, so this place still serves a function.

Alot I hope! A thousand or more would be a nice number! Im migrating my parents connection, don't know if they've had any problems (they dont mind a slower connection) but its just because they've peeved me off so much!

we have our own server unlimited bandwidth

No such thing as unlimited as there is no such thing as an unlimited speed connection and I'm sure if you start hosting your own version of download.com they'll soon stop you some way or another I've been involved in IT for too long to fall through that kind of statement that many hosts have said and either a) provided incredibly poor service when the bandwidth does rise up. b) disapear from the face of the earth entirley or c) say that your bandwidth usage is effecting other clients and kick you for that.

At the moment we have no plans to change hosting, as we are very happy where we are.

Sounds like everyone is gonna be based in the same building. So something like a simple power outage would take out their entire network.

is that unlimited or uncapped? better check they don't go bang a 100Gb limit with traffic shaping on it anyway.

I doubt they would move the network into their new offices. Currently the F2S network is in London as far as I know, and not in their current offices. Pipex also have their core backbone and peering POPs in London and not at the offices F2S are moving to, according to their site.

Also I doubt F2S have their entire network in one building. Ths press release suggests F2S have multiple POPs accross multiple sites, so they don't just have their entire network in the corner of their office running off one UPS (well I hope not...)

hi it was only an offer as you seem to be asking for donations

we have our own server (dedicated) unlimited gaming / traffic, it has 6 websites on it and so therefore would do the job

Our server is not used for ftp or downloading - purely website use - so my statement qualifies

I.
Just because they are moving to the same site as Pipex does not meant they are merging, just the same as Nildram being in the same building does not.....
As i said it makes good sense £££ wise to have everything under one roof... Think of the saving in terms of keeping YOUR monthly price down.

This board is open to other isp's so long as its posted in the correct sub forum..
Pipex, Nildram and F2s are all independent isp's but under the ownership of pipex coms, as are all the other co's they own within the group...
Again F2s while being under Pipex Coms owernership does NOT mean they are pipex... In fact they could just as easily drop all the current isp's names and create a whole new one....
Personally i intend to stay with F2s unless a better deal comes along.

Any savings get passed on to Pipex Directors and shareholders, not f2s customers.

Keeping the price low is a piece of cake - you just follow the Plusnet model and restrict as much bandwidth as possible so that all you are left with are profitable light users.

Quote:

But John - you know as well as I do that the the entire f2s board consists of Pipex Directors. The f2s MD Sean Stephenson is a Pipex Director.

They will run f2s for the benefit of Pipex shareholders, nobody else.

Yes the Directors and paper holders will make money..

When you compare to the old days of dial up, £14.99 per month for 2gb limit is a real bargain

I seem to recall you paid the isp for around £20.00 and limited to 50 hours per month.. then bt charged you per minute...

Not quite the whole picture Keith, they are directors of Pipex Coms... Which own's all 3 isp's along with a multitude of other companies.
Yes they are directors of Pipex as well, as they are of the other co's but they all fall under the ownership of the top co Pipex comms.

John

Sure f2s has a different company name to Pipex, but the reality is that strategic decisions are made by the same people.

AFAIK Metronet have 1 member of staff remaining from their pre-Plusnet days last year. Their customers are now on the managed Plusnet network. The underlying reality is that they are now one and the same.
