I’m currently on the f2s 1Mb / uncapped service, and applied for a regrade to the 2Mb / 50Gb service. Unfortunately I got the following message:
Unfortunately we cannot install a 2Mb service as we received a report indicating a line failure. This can be due to a number of reasons: - Line length: A telephone line must 3.5km or less in length. While you might live closer to your telephone exchange than this, the distance is measured by the routing of the cable and not "as the crow flies". - Line noise: Noise on your line is measured in decibels. For 2Mb connections the line must be no noisier than 43dB. Line noise increases naturally with the length of your line. - Individual line characteristics: Some lines are simply just better than others, and even if your line meets the limits of the previously mentioned criteria, it could still fail. This can be down to the age of your line, routing and an assortment of other technical reasons. (...) PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to disclose the margins by which your line failed. BT do not disclose such information due to the Data Protection Act, we are ONLY given a "pass" or "fail" reading. If you wish to pursue the matter of your line quality, please contact BT directly. I then spoke to BT Retail's technical support and was informed that they cannot specify why my line failed the 2Mb test. I was further told that BT Wholesale would be the only department able to specify what has gone wrong, and that the ISP should contact them as they will not speak directly to end-users. Unfortunately f2s says that “BT Wholesale do not disclose such details to service providers”. Any ideas how I can find out what is wrong with my line? |
