Will Freedom2Surf Plan To Have 8Mb ADSL ?

I just read other site on plusnet as it say that plusnet will have up to 8Mb available in April, as it say here: http://portal.plus.net/central/forum...ic.php?t=24962

So, I just wondering if Freedom2Surf could beat Plusnet by having a higher speed up to 8Mb ??

It would be great if we can have up to 8Mb with F2S Connect Plus with up to 100GB or 50GB in April ? Who Know ?

I am joining F2S Connect Plus up to 2Mb with 50GB. I am glad to choose the best isp is F2S.

sorry, that site need a username and password to log on. However, I had the correct site that will let you view it from plusnet without to log on their username or password.

Here is the correct site: http://portal.plus.net/supportpages....ce_id=adsldial

Apology for the incorrect site at 1st post.

http://www.bt.com/broadband/2mb

appears 2mb is the fastest currently. But note f2s guys that they are upgrading customers free.

8 Mb

It cost only £39.99 for 8 Mb with plusnet with a usages limit up to 275 GB a month eg:

peak times usages limit is 75 GB at between 08:01am and 12:59am and off peak times usages limit is 200 GB at between 01:00am and 08:00am 7 days a week, a total usages limit of 275 GB a month for just £39.99 inc vat for 8 Mb broadband in April with Plusnet.

I am sure that Freedom2Surf would beat Plusnet this offer can they ? Hope that Freedom2Surf can offer up to 8 Mb in April

TBH i dont think i would go for anything faster i dont need it.
Now if the price was to come down to the £25 mark i would give it some serious consideration

Bulldog if them usage figure you are quoting from plusnet then they are based on 2 meg connection speeds and as such the offpeak could be far more usage... Sure they would still proberly keep the metered levels. Interesting way they (+net) have worked things out looks complicated and i hope their system is up to running it.

I bet you must need a really good quality line to run 8Mbit though...

bulldog: Yes, we'll be offering 8Mb ASAP. The idea behind our product range is to be able to offer our customers a speed that's as fast as possible. Because of the way Wholesale's CBC charging works, if you have a realistic cap, then we don't care how fast your connection is. So if you've got, let's say, a 2GB cap, and you want 8Mb ... Then sure, why not. At today's pricing it would cost you £14.99.

2GB cap on an 8Mb line sounds a bit low

So the Connect Plus package with the 50gig cap would still cost £24.99 even if the line was 8meg? Nice! (And a fiver cheaper than the Plusnet equivalent)

Mark, that's just an example of how low the pricing can go. There are many people with a 2GB cap, and if they can have 8Mb instead of 2Mb at no extra cost, then my assumption is they'll be pretty happy. The same would apply for 10GB & 50GB capped customers too, I used the 2GB as an example because I think it underlines the possibilities better.

Speed is independent of capacity, surely?

As Stephen (f2s) says I'd jump at a 8Mb connection - but I was only just reaching my 1Gb cap so 2Gb will do me fine for general web browsing (and of course 500Mb of Norton Antivirus downloads ).

However, a colleague of mine has just had her regrade to 2Mb rejected due to line noise. I'm still waiting for the results of my regrade request and if Milton Keynes can't support it then there's no hope of 8Mb anywhere I reckon!

And I promise not to call you Shirley again.

Unhappy Ah ... Milton Keynes

Don't want to appear too pessimistic but I can see the Bletchley exchange when I am out walking the dog, I still cannot get a 2mb line though!! The wonders of using the old infrastructure to support a rapidly expanding area.

Would this be something that could be done without users having to request a upgrade ?
Would seem to be a logical step, rather than waiting for a user to request a regrade.

Will there also be a further range of products with larger caps more in the line of plus nets ?
I guess i would not be alone in saying that a 100 gig cap would be nice at something like £30 ish...
Any feed back from from you appreciated.

The best move f2s could make is to lower prices, increase the cap limit, thus attracting the masses = more profit, which could be put into adding extra lines, etc... to copy with the high demand...

as long as they have the cash flow to cope with the short term loss for the long term gain...... BT control the charging (for now) and they wont want to subsidise such a cavalier atttude as this i'd have thought

Trouble with that line of thought is that F2s will be working on small margins now and to cut further could be a cut too far. As it is now staff are stretched to the limit coping with the new demands these new products have brought. More staff will be needed to help support a larger user base, which in means there is less profit to plough back into expansion of the network side....
Remember how 56k went when all the isp's sprung up offering cheap 24/7 access..... Look how many went titsup.com.... All because they thought cheap prices would bring in the punters which it did but there was not enough profit to fund expansion which lead to the downward spiral...

Far better to price at a point that will sustain growth and bring in new users, which it seems they have managed to do.

There are all sorts of trials an announcements going on at the moment. It's not something we're ruling out, and if the option to automatically regrade customers came about, then who knows?

The problem with adding more products is that you'll just confuse customers even more. For the most part I think people are confused by all the choice already. Having even bigger caps might be possible in the future, who knows, but the cost to support heavy users is massive. We're trying to price things as honestly as possible, rather than give you a product now and then pull the rug out from under your feet later on.

By "asap" I am assuming that means as soon as it goes to trial, rather than waiting until the autumn for the products to be "officially" released by BT Wholesale?

Talking of which, is it true that you're stopping the 512K uncapped option and migrating everyone to 1Gb cap? Seems a bit heavy handed if true.
