Thumbs up Migrating to ADSL4LESS

All,
have been on Freedom to Surf since August last year and have had nothing but a good experience from using them. Support by email when I've had questions to ask has been prompt and they creditied my account with the 'Recommend a friend' scheme so hats off to them for that.

I'm migrating because they didnt put up much of a fight to keep me as a customer. I wanted to move to the 1mb line, but dont want any capping and didnt really want to pay another £13 a month for the priviledge so was a bit cheeky and asked if there are offers for exisitng customers. None available and it was left at that.

The new provider is only on a 30 day contract so if it all goes wrong I can jump out easy enough and I get to try the 1mb line for £21.98 per month on IPSTREAM so we will see how it goes.

I'd still recommend F2s though as its been a positive experience, but your 1mb uncapped line is a bit expensive - if it had been £30 per month with the vat I'd have stuck with you!

If it doesnt work out at ADSL4LESS I may well be back again though!

I'll post again when I've migrated acroos, which should be tomorrow and comment on how easy/hard it was to do, but obtaining the MAC code off you was no problem.

Cheers!

If you want to go to ADSL4Less thats your choice, But please beware by migrating to them you are migrating to an ISP that are proven liars?

Take a look at this statement on their website:
"January 2004 - After only 3 months of trading we now have a customer base of over 3000."

Now take a look at their domain name info:
Registration Date....11th August 2004

So, a company who claims to have been trading from late 2003 didn't register their domain until August 2004 when they claimed to have 3,000 customers before they even existed. Interesting.

Add to the fact that they sell 512K ADSL below wholesale price and you have a recipie for disaster it's not sustainable to provide an uncapped service for such a price and it will all end in tears.

But if price is more important to you than quality of service then by all means migrate to ADSL4Less, but I can bet 6-12 months down the line at the very latest you will regret it. If something looks too good to be true it usually is, Just search google for "RedHotAnt" and you'll see what I mean.

Personally I wouldn't trust, or touch them with a 100FT re-enforced bargepole.

Well with a 30 day contract if it doesnt work out its not going to cost me and to date all there emails have been replied to within the hour with decent advice so its worth a look - I'd probly not have moved over if the contract had been 12 months but even my brother who works for netservices had a look and basically said for the 30 day contract what have you got to lose?

If it all goes funny then I'm quite happy to come back and keep you posted if its not worked out - Then you can have a non-biased factual account of what their package is like. Then I'll probly switch to NetServices for £27 per month as my bro can sort a connection to them out - which arnt available the public generally.

I hear what you are saying though - but time will tell!

Well heres an update :-

The migration went without a hitch - all contact after the initial registration is now with Hotchilli as is support using the system on their website - so far I'm impressed and the line has been up since the 24th without problem.

I'll still be coming here now and again to see if F2s reduce their prices as I'd always be prepared to come back again....

Thanks

Personally I don't mind paying extra for the fact I don't have to think about my connection. I would never trust any other ISP than F2S

All a bit dogmatic isn't it guys?

Don't get me wrong: I've been with f2s for nearly 3 years now, have recently regraded to 1Mb, have referred 3 people here and am WELL pleased with the service and the price I'm paying.

But to dis another ISP on nothing more than unsubstantiated reports is a bit churlish; if Mr/Ms A wants to try out another ISP and, more importantly, is more than willing to report back here whether s/he was right to make the move or not, then that's his prerogative, surely? Seems like he has Plan B in place too, thanks to his brother.

Nothing would get me to move ISP, but I think we should show our fellow forum members more respect when they have obviously researched their move. For all we know, his new ISP may be bought out within the year (esp. if their original business model proves unsustainable ).

Everyone has a choice.

I've been with F2S for 3 years now. I can say that I've been happy with their service during the 3 years. I've been waiting for F2S to offer 1Mbit or 2Mbit uncapped service at competitive rates but it hasn't happened.
BulldogDSL are offering a 4Mbit service for £30pm with no BT line rental to pay. There's a £45 transfer fee but it's still cheaper than staying with F2S for a year.
Does anyone know how long migration takes and what the procedures are?

Yes, I do. I have just initiated my migration to Bulldog. You need to get a 'mac' (Migration Code) from f2s. You have to do this by requesting it in an e-mail and then they will e-mail back your code. You then give that code to Bulldog. It will take up to 20 days after you have paid the £45 connection fee.

And you're right it's one hell of a deal. 4mb uncapped, no BT line rental, monthly contract all for £30 per month including VAT. With zero catches. I even get to use my existing equipment.

I too have been with F2S for 3 years. The last 2 of which, I've been on a 2mb connection paying £70 per month!! I also gave them the opportunity to make me any sort of offer to keep my custom but was unceremoniously told NO!?

I also agree with Ralph. I learnt a long time ago never to bad mouth your competition. It's tastes of sour grapes and can/will backfire on you.

My 2 cents worth.....

Are there any migration fees to pay other than the BDog £45 transfer fee?
Also do you know when F2S disconnects the line and the time it takes for BDog to reconnect me?
I'm dreading the waiting time. I've been on fast connections for nearly 9 years non stop now and the thought of even plugging in my dialup modem is painful

The quote below is from a review on the ISPreview site.

"Just moved to Freedom2Surf after most unsatisfactory few weeks with Rabbit Broadband. F2S are excellent in every way, service fantasic from the day initial enquiry made. Signed up for 512 Broadband and got regular updates on order progress. Only took 6 days to get new connection. Couple of calls to Support - on an 0870 (not premium) number dealt with quickly and efficently. Installation was simple with a small problem concerning my own modem sorted out quickly by F2S support. F2S is very economical - you can even save the hefty connection charge if you sign up for 12 months - only paying if you terminate your contract prior to the 12 months."

Caveat Emptor

You pays your money you....etc.etc.

F2s will not disconnect until Bulldog tells them too. The down time (if any) will only be about 20 minutes. Painless.

And no, there are no other fees to pay.

I imagine to sort out all the admin and paperwork in connection with your move. In the meantime you will remain connected to f2s.

Just called Bulldog to place my order. The guy told me that there's no need for Mac code or anything and that I don't need to even contact F2S or BT.
Apparently Bulldog handles all that and all I need to do is sit down and wait.

Exclamation

If you do not get a Mac code from F2S and do not provide it to Bulldog you will have a loss of connection for at least a few days, maybe longer.

If I was you I would get that mac code and make sure bulldog use it. It is the mac code that prevents downtime!!

Thanks very much die_hard, the sales guy at Bulldog had to ask his boss about this (can you believe that!!) and I've now requested a mac code from f2s. Did you inform bulldog that you want the transfer to take place prior to the 24th of February? (24th being the next and last billing date with f2s)
