Re: E-mail down yet again?

This is the Outlook response I've been gettting since yesterday afternoon.

Task 'admin.oxymal.net - Receiving' reported error (0x8004210E) : 'Your mailbox is temporarily unavailable because another e-mail message is being delivered to it or another mail application is accessing it. The server responded: -ERR [IN-USE] Unable to lock maildrop: Mailbox is locked by POP server'

When I log on to webmail my mail is showing one moment and the next the inbox is empty.

As usual status report shows no probs. Wassitallabout?

Re: E-mail down yet again?

Having left f2s 18 months ago, I see little has changed.

Still the same problems, still the same lack of communication and still unfortunately the same optimistic people suffering from the problems.

What has changed?

Andrew has left to work elsewhere and his replacement doesn't use the forum it would appear.
Helen too has vanished but still shows up on adslguide sometimes so she's around.
The people who answered the users Q&A haven't kept their word, and unfortunately I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I was wrong to do so.

What will happen in the future?

Who knows ... if Tiscali are bought out then things by right should improve but who knows, after so many years since inception the f2s brand has been dragged through the mud and it seems even now that they are wishing on a prayer of it being salvageable.

Re: E-mail down yet again?

I was getting a unable to lock maildrop error similar to oxymal yesterday but thought the error might go away when the session locking the mailbox would timeout. This morning I'm getting a system I/O error when I try to check an @f2s.com account using POP3, so I think perhaps things haven't been working right since yesterday or earlier.

One thing I wish F2S/Pipex/Tiscali/future Tiscali buyer would fix is the RSS feed on the system status website. It's been broken since they moved from the ASP.net system status script to the new one written in PHP. It repeats a single incident in the system 8 times in the RSS feed, and when there are no incidents the RSS feed outputs a PHP error making the feed invalid:

http://www.freedom2surf.net/service-...status_xml.php

It's a complete joke that it was broken when it was setup and no one even noticed (and hasn't for months). It doesn't inspire me with confidence that they replaced a system that worked for months, with one that hasn't worked right ever.

Re: E-mail down yet again?

Good morning all,

I have just switched on, and each time my email opens I get the inmail and my username, plus password to log on, keep clicking 'ok' but consistently happens. ;I thought there was something wrong with my settings to begin with, then decided to check on the forum - so looks like we are all having the same problem.

Incidentally, I just checked my webmail and there's no mail there either - very very unusual, so something's up.

I can login to webmail ok but I get an empty mailbox - devoid of inbox, folders, rules etc ... But I can POP ok, so it's clearly just webmail that's broken ...

Don't think so!

I cannot get my emails anywhere. Webmail is as you state, devoid, and Outlook keeps asking for me to sign in, even after this only network connection window comes up ad nauseum, so there IS a problem.

Re: E-mail down yet again?

I logged it as an issue this morning but I'm not holding my breath for a response.
Outlook still can't and webmail still ain't.
I just need someone to shout at, that's all, it's not much to ask.
Think I'll phone up Sky's helpline to remind me of how bad it can really get.

Some other bugs I've found in the new system status pages:
  • On the list of events the date and time shown in the last update column seems to be a date before any update was posted for the event, and certainly not the time the last update was posted.
  • The start dates and end dates for an outage are the wrong way around (example), so apparently the weekend email outage started this morning and ended yesterday evening.
  • Carriage returns in the update posted by F2S/Pipex/Tiscali staff don't show up on the webpage, which makes longer updates harder to read. For example this update has carriage returns in the HTML, but they don't show up on the webpage. Maybe the staff could use HTML in their updates to work around this (but they shouldn't have to).
I swear this thing must have been thrown together in a hurry with very little testing.

From the status page:

Start date: 2008-12-02 08:00:17 - End date: rolling

We are currently experiencing an outage with our email platform. This is not affecting all customers. Those affected users attempting to get their email will get an error rejecting the username and password when logging in. Logging into webmail will be successful and users should be able to access their emails using this while the issue is resolved. Engineers are investigating to resolve this issue as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

Email still down for me this morning

No email at all from either domain or f2s accounts. Webmail shows emails from this morning only, which is a bit worrying.

Hope this does not herald a 'winter of discontent'; I had a exchange adsl problem two weeks ago, which three tech support guys in a row couldn't fix, but 'old hand' John fixed for me (when I finally got hold of him) in under 2 mins.

So, the moral for F2S is, keep the guys and girls who know and don't let them go (e.g. Andrew and Helen!)

Hopefully email will be fixed soon... not good to have it out for more than 48 hrs.

Does anyone have an email address for someone high up in F2S, maybe head of customer service?

Same problem here. The need for a reliable email service and F2S don't go together.
