account suddenly shut down

Last week, we asked Tiscali how to proceed to shut our Tiscali connexion down as we were moving out (another provider is already running where we are now). We actually didnt ask them to do anything...
...and then, without consulting us, they suddenly closed our account down.

Therefore, I dont have access to my email account anymore and I was wondering if:
- it was legal to close an account like this - on the phone, they couldnt explain why they have done that! but they couldnt help
- is there not a way to keep my email address even if Tiscali is not our provider?
- is there a way to recover the emails I've lost for the past three/four days?

- I thought one had to provide written confirmation of account closure, but I could be wrong.

- Its possible to keep @f2s addresses as long as there is a billable service on the account, i.e. the purchase of a domain etc would allow you to create @f2s addresses.

- In short, no.
