GIF Spam

Hi
I get loads of this kind of spam http://www.igotspam.com/50226711/gif_spam_again.php
and I'm wondering if I can set the spam filters on the servers to automatically junk anything that's got a gif attachment. There's a field called 'Field Name' that doesn't give any more clues, can I fill this with something? If so what?

TIA
Baz

We've seen a massive increase in these types of SPAM at work over the last few months (not F2S connection or e-mail). We use SpamAssassin running on the mail gateway which works very well, but failed to tag a lot of the GIF based spam. However, one of our IT bods found a GIF reader plugin which can read the content of the GIF using an OCR technique and installed that - dramatic improvement, almost all GIF based spam is now tagged.

Of course the spammers are trying to stay one step ahead, I see that they are now using 'wobbly' text in their GIF spam to try and defeat the OCR reader .

Why not just do as we have done and block GIFs? If you are needing to email photos jpegs are an alternative format, and since we blocked GIFs in general our spam levels have reduced, fine they are still high but it has stopped one type of spam we get.

Yep, that was, in fact, our first approach. However, our tech guys like to try and get one-up on the spammers if they can, so thought they would have a go with the plug-in , if nothing else, just to see how good it was (and it was/still is very good).

Please may I ask how you block spam gif emails? They're driving me nuts!

I use Thunderbird.

Thank You

I think its more a thing to do on the Server / using other 3rd party software rather than in the mail client, so you may be out of luck.

Would I be able to put 'Content-Type' and filter for 'multipart/related' safely?
