This is most probably due to the database issue we are currently experiencing.

I have posted a note in News and Announcements.

Helen,

Thank you for confirming there is a problem, I assume you refer to:
http://www.freedom2surf.net/help/dbase.php

Would it perhaps be helpful if this announcement mentioned the word 'email'? You see, I'm just a dumb user and have no idea that email has anything to do with databases.

Also, I don't suppose this explains why my outgoing emails have stopped working today:

Task 'Freedom2Surf - Sending and Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC7D) : 'Your outgoing (SMTP) server does not support SSL-secured connections. If SSL-secured connections have worked in the past, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

James

You may brand yourself a dumb user but you are quite right, that a MySQL/pgSQL server has absolutely nothing to do with email in a normal env. Perhaps they are running the relay database from something other than the normal way. Who knows... :/

Also, if you are getting those errors James, try disabling SSL (Secure) on SMTP. I don't think it works properly.

I thought it was a bit strange the database server should affect this (surely the email servers have their own config files?). The other thread from yesterday evening about domain emails says there was a problem yesterday evening, and I'm not aware the members area was down yesterday evening (someone would have probably noticed and posted). I'm wondering if the email problem is seperate to the database problem.

I have also started to use hotmail again for my personal email and find it a very reliable service. Not good for the professional image though.

On The F2S Site

See below, love the way email is mentioned in passing surely this is most important

Any updates on a resolution? As I can't post a support request as the site won't let you in....

Database Issue
21st of July 2006 - 09:30

We are currently experiencing problems with the database server, we have senior engineers on site who are investigating.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer any resolve time at the moment but will continue to keep you updated.

This will also affect you accessing the Members area, FTP access, placing orders & email delivery.

Please accept our sincere apologies for the inconvenience this may cause.

Graham, I totally agree. If email is down and there isn't a big red light on freedom2surf.net informing us users, and reassuring us that they are doing something! Their phone lines must be going mad! With a little honesty they could save themselves a lot of grief.

http://www.freedom2surf.net/help/dbase.php definitely didn't say, "This will also affect you accessing the Members area, FTP access, placing orders & email delivery." when I looked at it at 10:00. It seems curious that it was updated without the time being changed.

Anyway if it's affecting "placing orders", not mearly email, I am reassured that they are working on it.

I have still not had any inbound emails to my domain today. They don't seem to be bouncing, they just don't arrive! This is far worse - my customers will assume I have got emails when I have not.

From 12:48 F2S have been claiming:
"E-mail had an issue on the inbound MX servers, which would have caused your e-mail to bounce. This has been fixed from back-up and the servers are working to process the extra load due to the outage. Please be aware there are delays."

Well, it has NOT been fixed! Test emails sent at 13:00 have not yet arrived or bounced.

They wouldn't bounce if they are delayed. Perhaps F2S can give people an idea of how long the emails might be delayed?

I am unable to tell you this at the moment, I have asked the engineers to investigate further.

Will keep you posted.

Is this company a joke?

How can they not know whats going wrong with the server? Its been down all day and at 4.38 someone decides to ask one of the engineers to investigate. There is just no honesty.

I'm not being funny but there is no way I'm renewing any of my domains / adsl / email.
