Lightbulb Accessing an f2s email account from a GPRS handset

Setting up a vodafone GPRS handset with f2s email
====================================

Since it has taken me a while to track down all this information I thought i'd share it with you:

To get f2s email working using the vodafone GPRS network you need to follow these instructions as the orginal GPRS connections programmed into the phones are a bit .... restrictive.

1) Create a new "GPRS data" account with the following information:

APN = internet
User id = web
Password = web

Call it something like "vodafone internet"

2) Setup a mail account on the handset which connects using the GPRS connection you have just configured i.e. "vodafone internet"
Use the usual f2s mail account settings from the members area including the correct incoming server, port(pop 110, imap 143) , username(mailbox), password, outgoing port (25) and email address. You need to specify either imap or pop3 depending on the capabilities of your handset and your requirements, make sure the incoming port reflects this.

NB The one exception is that you have to use the vodafone outgoing mail server because the f2s server "outmail.f2s.com" will not relay for connections from vodafone GPRS

You should specify the outgoing mail server as "smtp.vizzavi.net"

!!!!!Done!!!!!!

You should now be able to send and recieve f2s email from your vodafone handset via GPRS i.e. send all your pics attached to a single email rather than get charged for each mms.

Perhaps members with phone on other networks could add their information to this thread?

Hope that helps guys and gals.... (Apologies if this information is just duplication)

Thanks for that OZ,
This is applicable for all UK mobile networks, as long as you have access to an internet APN, and not a WAP APN, you can access any readily accessible mail server from your GPRS handset.

I use Vodafone, O2, and Orange, and in the next week or so I'll possibly write a FAQ on how to enable this for all networks.

GPRS is normally expensive though, so it is an idea to use CSD (normal dial-up) if you get free minutes. Speed is not normally an issue with email if you set your mobile mail client up properly.
I have my P800 setup to only download messages smaller than 10K, the rest it just downloads the header.

I have it setup to dial the F2S dialup number at 19:02 so I only get charged at O2 Off-Peak rates which are in my inclusive minutes
