Any advice before transferring out

Hi Guys

I've been thinking of transferring out my web hosting and domain names from F2S incase I decide to migrate broadband in the future.

Thanks to some of your already excellent advice, I've decided to separate the web hosting from the domain name hosting and in preparation of this I've investigated which companies to use and have decided to use some of the following.

Before I take the plunge I wonder if any of you would advise me to avoid any of these:

Web Hosting
Streamline
UnitedHosting

Domain Names
1and1
uk2.net (like free POP3 mail)

I recently purchased a domain name for the family and used a firm called DomainMonster. I now wish I hadn't as forwarded email is taking forever, if it gets through at all.

now discovered that delay was due to F2S greylisting. So all is forgiven DomainMonster. Still early days with them, but so far so good and they have a nice control panel.

Cheers
Neal

I can't advise on your earlier points, but if your current Domain Host is not up-to-scratch, just move the Domain. Many (123-reg for example) currently offer free migrations. I've got three domain names with them (1 fully hosted, 2 which forward mail/web) and can't say I've had any problems. Just a week ago I moved one of my domains away from NamesCo because their 2-year domain renewal fees were over £20, whereas with 123-reg and 1and1 it's less than half that. The domain only has email and web forwarding, so I couldn't see the point of paying the high price asked by NamesCo. Even though NamesCo charged £10 to release the TAG, it will still work out cheaper to renew with 123-reg.

www.servage.net have been excellent for domain/hosting, they also include 1 domain with the hosting package price, so you can probably transfer the domain you have to them.

I had domains with www.domaincity.co.uk which were cheap and good for forwarding url/email only.

I wanted everything in one place so easily migrated my domains to servage.

After last weeks fiasco with email at F2S I decided enough was enough and took the plunge and I've transferred out all our .co.uk domains to domain hosting company and I've also moved our web hosting to a separate web hosting company.

When the .COM's come up for renewal in a couple of months, they will also be transferred.

For the time being I'm happy with the broadband service, so this will be staying with F2S - but for how long ? If I start to experience some of the problems others have been getting then its off to BE for me.

We've been with F2S since 2004, and have been very happy with their service but as everyone has experienced lately, the service levels have dropped significantly, and delays of up to 5 days on emails was just unacceptable when you're trying to run a business.
