Am I right?
Hi
OK, I just bought my first dot.com name through F2S. I normally use UKREG thinking I would get a few more options being a broadband customer, and it more expensive. Is this right?
Anybody have any thoughts? Am I best jumping ship and taking my dot.com with me? Any thoughts are appreciated. Cheers, Chris |

I've never bought a domain from f2s, but I'd personally having just used namecheap recommend them, as their control panel is very impressive.
There are folks who have used f2s though, so I'm sure they'll help. |

- You can't point your .com domain in the DNS sense at your myspace.f2s.com webspace because the webserver isn't setup to server up pages for your .com domain, and F2S don't offer this.
- As you say if you use the redirect it will always show myspace.f2s.com in the address bar after the redirect has happened. - You shouldn't need to mess around with MX records unless you didn't buy the domain email service from F2S. How did you plan to have email working? Did you pay the £24+VAT for the domain email service? In terms of free features you don't get much with F2S for domains. They don't offer framed forwarding (which would keep your domain in the address bar), email forwarding or WHOIS protection which quite a few other registrars offer.

Humph!
Thanks for all the responses. After a bit of research I've discovered that "freedom2surf" is actually ancient-Greek for "Done up like a kipper". With UKREG you get free services like email forwarding, website forwarding (framed or redirect). I was trying to marry up my free webspace from F2S with my new dot.com >>How did you plan to have email working? Email forwarding to my f2s email account, >> Did you pay the £24+VAT for the domain email service? Not on your nelly! >>...the webserver isn't setup to server up pages for your .com domain, and F2S don't offer this Why not? >>myspaace.f2s.com/mywifenude Perhaps not a bad idea... my wife is still in her 20's so might be worth preserving the image now. As a wise man once said "In 20 years every women you know will be ugly... " I need to think about this one. Is it worth spending £24 to get the fully hosted website by F2S? Cheers, Chris |

Unless you purchase the domain email service from F2S or from somewhere else, your email won't work. Other registrars offer free email forwarding which would allow you to forward all email to your @f2s.com address. I would guess F2S won't let you point your domain straight at your free webspace because they want you to buy their webhosting service for your domain (which is pretty much identical but costs £24+VAT a year).
You should really have checked these things out first to see if the F2S package offers what you want, which it doesn't seem to. I wouldn't advise purchasing the F2S web hosting package for your domain. The recent downtime and problems with the webservers (and F2S saying on a weekend they have no one around to type in a one line command on a server to fix it until Monday morning) suggests they are not interested in providing a reliable hosting service like they used to. Also once before, the redirections server was broken for an entire weekend (thousands of sites offline) and they were not aware of the problem until I emailed them on the Monday morning, soon after which it was fixed.

You'll have to wait 60 days (after registration) before you can transfer too, regsitrars rules I'm afraid (same for everyone).
f2s won't charge you to leave but you won't get any money back either.... |

http://www.phillcahill.f2s.com/mywifenude doesn't work, and neither does http://www.chriswe5t.f2s.com/mywifenude .
Very disappointing!
