Hi,
I am using my own web server to host a site for my wife's complementary therapy business. I am running XP Pro and (after a few installation niggles) IIS 5.0 and I have an internal wireless network behind a Draytek Vigor 2600G router. I have purchased a domain name (bridgewaterretreat.co.uk) from f2s and I have made what I believe to be the necessary entries within members area to point the name to my IP address. If I attempt to ping bridgewaterretreat.co.uk from an external network, it apprears to resolve to 195.137.91.22 and I assume this to be a good sign. The curiousity is this. If I externally connect to my site via the IP address: http://195.137.91.22 ..then it works fine. But if I attempt to externally connect via the domain name, it fails: http://www.bridgewaterretreat.co.uk or http://www.bridgewaterretreat.co.uk/index.htm I've tried a few things, but at the moment I'm not really sure if this is a problem with:
Ideas gratefuly received... |

Right your website works if you enter bridgewaterretreat.co.uk but not if you have the www subdomain on the front. To get it working with www.bridgewaterretreat.co.uk you need to create an 'A' record in the members area like you did for bridgewaterretreat.co.uk to make www.bridgewaterretreat.co.uk point to your IP address. Then people should be able to access you site using www.bridgewaterretreat.co.uk as well as just bridgewaterretreat.co.uk.

Putting aside my feelings on the adequacy of IIS... you'll notice in your F2S members' area there's a Reverse DNS link next to your ADSL service info line. You need to fill in these details to get it working nicely. ![]()
