Question File hosting info contradiction?!??!?

Hi

I just need an issue confirming once and for all becuase I am confused by the contradicting information on this site.

In the WEBHOSTING FAQ it says that hosting .exe or .zip files is permitted as long as it is NOT copyrighted material.

However

In the DOMAIN terms and conditions item g) Hosting File repositorys of any kind is NOT permitted. eg. .zip .exe .rar etc...

Surely this is contadictory? I was thinking of purchasing a domain.. but would like this issue cleared up before I do.

Are .exe or .zip files permitted or not?

Hi, I'll have a look into this for you. I'm not aware of anyone who's ever had problems hosting such files, but obviously if the website says contrary then something definitely needs fixing.

Hello again ... Hosting those files is definitely allowed, if, for example, they're needed for the functionality of your website. We simply ask that customers make the distinction between web servers and file servers. The servers aren't designed for file-sharing, and while we don't mind people hosting files on there, we ask that you use your space primarily for the use of hosting websites.

Stephen, perhaps you can clarify something I've been wondering about...

On the capped services, does usage from the free webspace count? i.e if I was hosting at http://domain.f2s.com for example a 1mb file, and someone somewhere downloaded/viewed that, would it be taken into account as usage?

I'm hoping not, but have had some contact from clients who think this may be the case.

Steve!

Your usage cap on the Connect products is just for data uploaded and downloaded on your ADSL line, and is nothing to do with downloads on your webspace. So anything downloaded from your webspace won't affect your cap on your ADSL at all.
